I feel the same way as you do on this one keep us posted.

I would be very disappointed if the filled tires caused a warranty issue. They were an option offered and installed by the Kubota dealer. I think they actually recommended it, since the tractor is equipped with a loader.

My thanks to all for your help while I try to understand this. I have about a 5th grader's understanding of the physics involved. Therefore, I will cling to my basic idea that a doggone tractor should not break itself while attempting to claw out of a hole.

I did an after hours service drop off at my dealer last night. Hopefully, I will have some new information in a week or so.

First: If the dealer says whatever it was broke because of abnormal forces on the wheel/axle, would you be happy to share with us what the tractor and you were doing in the seconds leading up to the snap to cause those abnormal forces? For example if the rear wheel was jammed in a deep slot-like rut and you were attempting to walk/drive out of is with some decent lock on the front wheels, I can imagine that would put a fair old bending force on the axle, and I don't mean in the torsional sense. I'm just thinking that knowing what caused it might help me and others avoid the same thing happening.

Second: If the dealer declines it as a warranty or insurance job, and you get them to replace the parts anyway, it could pay to hang onto the old parts and show them to someone with experience in diagnosing metal fractures. Or read up on it yourself. "Understanding how components fail" by Donald J Wulpi is a practical classic in the field of failure analysis and you don't need an electron microscope or be a member of Mensa to understand it. The analysis might agree with the dealer, or it might not. Either way you learn something.

This is just my take on things having done a fair bit of failure analysis of broken off-highway equipment in a past life, feel free to ignore :)

please post photos of the broken ends once the repair is complete. It will be obvious whether the break was a fracture that became a break, or a clean break.

This is scary thought !
I have drove the older Kubota tractors around on one front wheel with out a problem...

That said I still pay for KAC insurance it’s like 225 a year
And well worth it !
250 deductible...

It is a broken axle. I don't think I'll get to see the damaged part because the dealer must return it to Kubota. Kubota is replacing the part under warranty.

I may learn more when I pick the tractor up, hopefully next week.

I would call the service manager and ask if they will let you see the parts before they send them in or take a picture of them.

Great news about replacing the part under warranty.

+1 for BAP's suggestion.

Parts fail for all sorts of odd reasons, manufacturers know this hence the warranty! ;)

Good to hear they are getting you fixed up!
