My old M7030 is ozzing oil around the left front wheel (over the winter it leaked +/- 1/4 pint). I am presuming a seal has failed. I have a shop manual and it doesn't mention replacing a seal. Is this a DIY project or is it a major job? One thing I haven't figures out is the zerk grease fitting on top of the spindle and the plugs to add and check oil level. Is it one of those things better left alone and just keep track of and add fluid? It is not dripping, just ozzing. My first job will be to tighten all the bolts.

I can share a story.
about 10 years back I had a smaller tractor that was only a couple of years old and same thing was happening.
Called my dealer for repair kit and he asked if I had ever done a fluid change? I said no. he said then likely the front end had the factory oil in it UDT.
He suggested I first drain the UDT and replace it with 80/90w gear oil ( I am going by memory but this was an option listed in the owners manual anyways) and the oozing stopped AND has never leaked since.
It was a cheap and easy and so far life long fix from my regular dealer that always shoots me straight.

The illustrations in my manuals are very poor. My front hub looks different from the illustration. There is a plug in the bottom and a plug half way (14mm) up and it looks like a plug surrounded by a large sq. nut higher up. I took the 14 mm plug out and had gear oil flowing out. It appears my ozzing is above the bevel gear and that oil comes from the axel. I find a plug about half way up on the axel housing on left side of tactor, is that the fill and check oil plug?

I am going to make a trip to my local dealer and try to get a look at the 7030 parts book. If that fails, I'll contact Mesick's.
I am in the middle of repairing a leaking front seal on my m6-111 right now. So far Im into about $2200 for parts.......Mine has leaked for the past 2 years. I just kept adding UHD2 fluid. A month ago I decided to put a seal in it. When I started to take it apart I drained the oil out first. What I saw was the absolutely worst oil I have ever seen and it was silver and clogged up the drain hole before it was dry. There were 2 big bearings that were gone, not there, no trace other that all the shavings. What I figured out is when the leak started, it was because a bearing was going out, then the contaminated oil destroyed almost everything in there.....If its leaking, drain it and check for metal shavings.............

M4500DT WSM is also misleading about the front axle. I sought and received advice from this forum that helped avoid wrecking something while dismantling.Sorry to hear that. I was fortunate in that I noticed very slight irridescence in the oil from the front wheel case when doing a scheduled oil change so knew to investigate, remembering advice from this forum a while back: if the seal is leaking, it can mean a bearing is collapsing. I found a bearing was just starting to wear. I assume that you will check the other side too?
I found the axel was low on oil and added 75-90 gear oil. I am not using the tractor much so will see how much oil it is leaking. Do I dare use corn head grease in that front axle in an attempt to stop the oozing? I have attached a picture, it shows the drain plug and the fill/level plug. what is the plug inside the nut in the middle of the picture? You can also see the seal that is oozing. The second picture shows the axle fill/level plug, that's where I would put the corn head grease.

Not that I noticed. Just started leaking...I didn't really check it out when it started. I kept an eye on the level and added as needed. I didn't find out that a problem was brewing until a year or so later. I didn't frequent this or any other tractor web sites to know...........but I know now !!!!lol
I have some 75-140 gear oil rather than corn head grease. I am going to pull the grease fitting and see if that is low too. Not sure where you check the level. I was surprised when I took the fill/check plug out of the axel, there was a vacuum in the axel. I have added about 1 1/2 quarts gear oil. Got to build a tool to inject the gear oil. I can't figure out where the axel is leaking. The only oozing was at the seal in the bottom of first picture, opposite the bolt to adjust shims.
Dealer was no help, his illustrations were as poor as mine. I am going to pull the zerk on top and see if that reservoir is low. No idea how much to put in, guess I'll fill it.

In order to help you further I need the serial number of the tractor.
And pictures of the front axle cases for further out.
There was three different cases used on that model.
I would not use 75-140 or anything that thick because it would do it's job.

You have a M7030 SUDT, it's different than a M7040DT, that might be part of your part and diagram confusions.

OK, that looks like my front end. I haven't found a 6m bolt to remove the air venting plug under the zerk, so I haven't checked that oil level yet. Is there a "level check plug" there? or do you just fill it? So far the only thing that was low was the axel and I don't see any leaking/oozing yet, but haven't run the tractor.
Is 00 grease thinner than corn head grease and would it work as well as 75-140 gear oil? I used it on a rototiller gear box and it stopped the oozing.
