Hi folks,
Just found this forum while looking for parts, and was hoping someone would be willing to answer a question or two..
I bought an M6950 DTS a couple months ago, after getting tired of dealing with local JD dealers. Tractor has low hours, 560, and barn kept, but I’m running into typical items you would expect for a 30 year machine.

I was running a 20ft 3pt chain harrow today, and the hydraulic sensor light came on. I assume it’s a constriction, so I’ve ordered a filter from local dealer (not in stock), and I’m going to drain and replace the fluid.
-first question. Does this model have a suction screen? I can’t seem to find one in the drawings from Kutoba. Is so, where?
- Is there anything else I should be looking at beyond fluid, filters? Hydraulics are strong, smooth, and I haven’t found any leaks beyond a couple I’m about to swap.
-last question. Has anyone used Providence Premium Trans-hydraulic oil (multi-trac) sold by Rural King? it states it meets Kubota UTD , Super UTD specs.
Thank you all for your help!

Well, after a new filter and fluid the hyraulic pressure light went away. I do have another question if someone could answer?

what is this open hole in my transmission casing with access through the cockpit floor? Missing dipstick? As I drove the tractor I think some fluid sloshed out.. trying to find what goes here with the exploded view drawings, but no luck so far.

We've had this one before, there is supposed to be a rubber plug in that hole.
But the prints don't show it.

With the part not being in drawings, I guess it may be a big ask to see if anyone would know the part number? Otherwise, I’ll take some measurements when I get home and cut something to size I suppose.

thank you for the response.

Well, got lucky and found the plug under the floorboard on top of the trans case.

Hooked up a 15ft bushhog and spent a few hours mowing. I got to about the end, and my hydraulic pressure light came back on. This is with a fresh filter and fluid. I have a screen and gasket for the power steering reservoir on order with my local dealer. Should arrive beginning of the week. I’m curious if anyone would have another idea? I can only think of that screen, or maybe I had enough crud in the system that it’s plugged the new filter. Beyond that, I’m not sure where to go next.

It might could guess if I knew what the light means

General answer would be it’s an ‘Easy Checker’ system light that is meant to indicate a constriction in the system, typically hydraulic filter.
Per the WSM I’m browsing it is detected via a vacuum switch and a thermostat switch. Really hope it’s not the vacuum switch as they are discontinued per Kubota parts site.

I changed out the hydraulic filter last week, and replaced the fluid.

A vacuum switch and thermostat switch suggests two possible conditions:
  1. Pump inlet vacuum is too high
  2. Oil temperature is too high
If thats the case could be either condition or one of the switches. Whats the finger test tell you about oil temp? Have you tested the switches per the WSM?

I didn’t do finger test, but I did change out a hydraulic coupler right after parking and fluid was warm but not hot. Now, that fluid near the coupler probably wasn’t circulating where temps would be higher.
I have not tested switches, haven’t found an explanation on how to test, only theory of how they operate.

Shades of Rube Goldberg.

I would remove the vacuum switch and install a vacuum gsuge. Run the snot out of it and see if the vacuum gets to or above 300 mmHg.

Okay, thank you very much for the assistance. I’ll try and figure out tread size on that switch, find a gauge and get it plumbed in.

Quick question about the vacuum gauge. Is there any reason I couldn’t add a braided line to get the gauge up near the cockpit so I can monitor while I run?
was going to get 1/8 bspt to 1/4 npt elbow to braided line to a gauge.

My bet is 1/8 BSPT. A more sophisticated test would b

I think thats exactly what you want.

I dont think the line or fittings need to be anything extraordinary Plain old EPDM vacuum line and nylom hose barbs from your local auto parts store.

You can use 1/8 NPT but you will only get a couple threads going before it binds up.
On vacuum that wouldn't be an issue.

lazy and ordered the parts to plumb gauge from Amazon. Should have it when I’m home from work, and will try. I did get 1/8 bpst adaptor.

I just want to make sure, but the thermostat switch is the one further back on the tractor, and the vacuum switch further forward?
