That indicates that the switch is not working properly. You can test the voltage coming out of the key to the stop solenoid with a meter or a 12v light bulb in that wire. I would install the bulb where you can see it and try to start the tractor.

Even if the switch is new does not guarantee that it is working properly. You might remove it and see if you can clean the internal mechanism by some spraying method.

i tested the voltage an it was low less than 10v but that was before i repaired the wires (they had crimp connectors on them and one was loose). haven't tested again but will do so this pm and see what voltage i have. switch has not been replaced and is original, so sounds like i need to go ahead and order one.

I discovered yesterday that on the initial start that i can keep it running by keeping the starter engaged and by holding the key between start and run but at soon as the key returns to run it shuts off.

I saw an earlier posting about the oil pressure switch causing the shut off and noted that my tractor's shut off seemed to follow if the oil light did not immediately turn off. But it never shut off if the light turned off immediately. We are only talking a second or two for the light to show or not. I never had the problem when warmed up. I had concluded that switching lately to Rotello T5 vs T6 may be related to my problem. Going back to T6. Will keep an eye on switch.

Hope the switch fixes mine but I will search for the oil pressure thread and read it. Just changed the oil in mine I used T4.

yes he, north idaho wolfman, and russell king all said it was the switch. they were all right. switch came in yesterday. i installed it and the tractor cranks perfect.

The oil pressure switch has Zero interface with the tractor running or stopping.
It's just an indicator that the engine has oil pressure.
