M59 week power steering

First off a new member but been reading the forum for awhile. foust some useful information so thank you. Wes

We have owned a M59 for about two years now and for the most part light dury work our on the family ranch. Last time when going to park the tractor i noticed the i was having to turn the wheel many times to get it to turn. by the time i got it back to cover i had almost no steering at all had to turn using the dual brakes. With the tractor off the wheel will just free spin not turning front wheels when running same thing even with it reving to 2500-2600 rpm. the only fay i can get any movement is by lifting the front wheels off the ground with front bucket. All other hydraulics seem to be working fine. (backhoe, front bucket and front extra hookup we use for a grapple) I order the Service manual but it dose not have much information in the steering section. (section 7) Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Wes

Russo if you don’t get answers here, there are a number of M59/62 owners on TBN. A few are engineers and know tractor mechanics much better than I. Does the WSM show how the power steering interacts with the main hydraulic pump? Any hoses or connections? Any fluid leaking around applicable areas?

I would love to hear what you find out, as it could very well happen to me as well.

I have gotten on TBN but am waiting on admin approval before I can post. I don't see any fluid leaks. Fluid in the front axle was low and refilled so was thinking maybe Aire but I don't see a bleed anywhere. Thanks for the reply. Wes

You most likely have a have a blown seal in the steering cylinder.
You can verify this by removing one line off the cylinder, attach the loose line to a bucket to keep things from being too messy also leave the bucket under the open port on the cylinder, turn the wheel in the direction of the open port, a little fluid will come out, the cylinder should go to the end of it's stroke then if fluid is still coming out 100% damaged seal.

It will do exactly that when the seal is out, as it will just pass fluid around in a loop from the tank to the steering controller to the cylinder, then past the seal and back to the controller and then back to the tank, you will not see a leak externally, it's an internal leak.

Russo52805 I was wondering how many hours you have on your M59 I picked one up awhile ago and so far it's been a great backhoe mine has just under 800 hours on it? I hope you get her straightened out.

Do you happen to have a part number for a cylinder rebuild kit? I will have to look at the hours the next time I'm out at the ranch. Thank y'all
