Welcome to OTT
Did you replace reverser synchronizers? I owned a M4900 that stuck in reverse. I had tractor split & replaced synchronizer assemblies which repaired the problem.

I still have the tractor split in half. Not sure how to tell if it is ever in neutral. I replaced the forward and reverse synchronizers and coupling. Have opened to recheck about 10 times and see nothing wrong according to parts diagram. When I install the shuttle outer half and try to turn shaft it will never go into neutral. When shifting into reverse it will not turn any. It is like the shuttle is in two gears at once. When shifting I can see the shift arm move and is not in a bin but never seems to be in neutral when turning by hand. Any info would be great to have. I have lost half of my mowing jobs due to this being out of service. At 67 still need to make money to keep all afloat. Thanks, Mike g
Wish I knew what to do to repair. Have ordered a wsm but will not be here until August 30.

Found the problem today. Took the shuttle shift to a young man that use to play baseball for me years ago. He found the forward synch was stuck in to the synch holder. Was out of round. He polished with emery paper uses a little oil and it shifted and worked like it was supposed. This young man is a guy that can ride repair and win just about any motorcycle he has ever owned. All synch were new and replaced but where I live near the saltwater things rust over night. Sure glad he found the problem Thanks, to all who helped in this problem. Sometimes people help us but a lot never go back and post what the answer is to help others. Thanks, again. Mike g

That’s great that you were able to find the problem and it was a simple fix.

Be thankful you discovered you still had a problem while the tractor was still split. It would have been a bugger to do it twice before you found the problem. Glad for you. It's nice you come back and report the cure, many don't!
