M5660 SUHD vs M6060

I'm getting ready to trade tractors and have been comparing the M5660 SUHD and the M6060, both open station with a FEL.

First a little info,
I have 120 acres in pasture and keep 60-70 beef cows most of the time. I have someone else roll the hay (5x5) but I transport the rolls to the barns and feed daily during the winter. During the summer about 50 acres are bush hogged once a year. I may have to bury a cow every so often, occasionally clean up storm debris with the grapple /landscape rake and other farm duties. No crop farming is done.

After looking over all the specs and looking at reviews on both, I don't know why the M6060 would be worth the extra money.

Any opinions on what would make the M6060 more desirable than the M5660SUHD for my needs?

The M6060 is a finer and easier riding unit, Base price of the same build only puts the M6060 about 2K more than the M5660SU.

Yes both will get the job done but if your bouncing around a hard rutted yard/field your going to be happy you spent the little extra for the M6060.

One thing is opt for the dual speed PTO 540/540E no matter which model you get, it will save you a ton of money down the road if you ever need to do your own hay work as it runs the engine at 1/2 RPM and PTO at same speed.

Better seat suspension, better steering, better three point control, better control layout, better resale value, seeing that you hauling round bales, you should look into the KSR Accumulator it really helps cut down on shock on the loader, and get the stock third function and with the M6060 you can get some extra features that the M5660 does not offer.

After doing a little more digging, looks like the 6060 compares to the 5660 like a Chevy Biscayne compares to an Impala or a Civic to the Accord.
A few useful and nicer features here and there.

I test drove the 5660 and really liked it but I'll have to look at the M6060. The dealer has one on his lot.

I’ve looked at the SU (special Utility) and it looked to me that they left parts off. I know one difference is the transmission is only synchronized between 3rd & 4th gear. As mentioned before the control layout is different. I would pay the extra money and get a few more creature comforts and nicer layout.

You had me at "better resale value."

Not to mention $1,700 over the life of the tractor or as a percentage of the total cost really isn't too bad.

Not being familiar with either model, I took a quick look at specs.

Looks like about 4,300 lbs for the 5660 vs. 5,000 lbs for the 6060. Of course, add loaded tires (wider rears on the 6060), wheel or suitcase weights, etc.

Weight is great thing.....maybe make handling 5x5's a little easier.

They both look great - but that $1,700 may be $$ well-spent.

Not sure what is or isnt on each of these tractors, and but the L60 series has an Intellipanel screen that allows you to monitor the dpf filter and to know when it needs to regen and you can plan your work accordingly. Very useful. If on the M6060 worth the extra bucks.

Today I stopped by one of the two dealers that I've been talking to. He didn't have a 6060 on the yard but did have a 7060 that was going to a customer. According to him the 7060 and 6060 look almost identical so I checked it out, sit on it and kicked the tires. You guys were right, it is a lot more refined with more comfort features and extras than the 5660.
The dealer ran a locator and is going to let me know when he finds one then we will get serious about the final price.

The one thing that stood out as I was looking at it was the size. It looked huge! It makes my L3600 look like a toy and even the Ford 4630 looks a lot smaller.

The M6060 and M7060 are a lot of tractor, but they are really nice models and have been very refined over the years!

The 7060 would be nice but the 6060 maybe more tractor than I need. Handling 5x5 round bales takes a heavy tractor and the MX series looks to be too light to move them safely but the M6060 should be perfect.

The dealer just called this morning and is having trouble locating a 6060 that is close enough to be cost effective for him to travel to get. He's located one 3 hours away at another dealer and waiting on him to call back.

It's looking like I won't even need a tractor to haul hay because it's rained everyday for 2 weeks and I can't even have it baled.

Got to go with the M7060 12/12. It has limited slip front differential and it makes a huge difference, we have yet to get our M8540 stuck and everybody knows reactors shrink when you get it home.

Ok here's the deal.

I heard from the dealer today. He can't locate a M6060 4X4 anywhere within a reasonable driving distance and the delivery time from the factory is 90+ days.

He did say that he had a M7060, 8spd, 4X4 on the lot and has somehow worked out a deal to let me have it, equipped the same, as the M6060 for the same price.

Other good news for me is that he already has a buyer for my Ford 4630 that I'm trading in and he's allowing me more for the trade in.

He's ordering the 3rd function valve today, installing it and will deliver my M7060 4X4 this Friday morning.

I still have 20+ acres of pasture left to bush hog and that should help me get used to the new Kubota.
