I have a 2017 M5-111 that I use around my acreage. A month ago I was using it to lift a pallet out of my truck. The weight of the pallet was minimal but on a slight slope. When I backed up the tractor began to become sluggish. I finished and parked it. The next day I went to use it and noticed that it would not shift into gear while running. I could turn it off put it in gear and start it up. I also noticed that when in gear and my foot was not on the brake it would creep forward. Other than this everything else works without issue. I have both forward and reverse. I took it into my local Kabota dealer and they said there where shavings in the filter. Without taking it apart they quoted me up to $20,000 to repair it because it is likely the wet clutch pack. They said it is a large undertaking to pull it apart and replace. I have less than 500 hours on it and bought it from an uncle's estate. It has had yearly maintenance done. I realize it is hard to diagnose from symptoms but to me the clutch maybe a probable cause. I am very surprised that it would need a clutch already given the usage is non-farming activities (snow, moving dirt, implements). Does $20k seem reasonable to replace the clutch on an M5-111? Is there any testing that can be done other than symptoms and the fact there are shavings in the filter? Is there any way to get Kabota involved given the low miles or am I out of luck? I am thinking about a second opinion, however it seems all close dealers have more work than they can handle already.
