Good evening,

I was bush hogging this evening, just got started maybe 15-20 mins. Was driving along and all of a sudden tractor quit moving/pulling. Like it lost its gear. I put my foot on the clutch and it felt like there was no resistance. Eventually i got it moving back to a flat area to park it. I've heard of the linkage on that going out/breaking. It was strange. The night before i cut for 2 hours and no problem. Tractor has 286hrs and a 2023 model, I bought it new. Seems a little early to have these issues? It will still go into gear forward and reverse but not normal per say. The clutch is definitely not right, any ideas on what else it could be?

Thanks for any help or ideas.

Out of interest, if you have the gear shift out of neutral i.e. in gear, does the hydraulic shuttle work as expected for forward and reverse rather than using the clutch pedal?

Yes. The shuttle shift on steer column works. Goes into forward and reverse. There feels to be a lag/not the same rate of speed while in said gear. However not wanting to cause any further damage i didnt mess with it to much until i talk to dealer tomorrow.

I do not think your machine with hydraulic shuttle has a clutch in the conventional sense of the work.
The forward , reverse clutch pack provides the "neutral"
Low fluid as NIW suggests is first check

It appears from viewing parts catalog that the hyd shuttle is electronically controlled. I counted 5 electrical switches on that tractors clutch housing & there could be more switches I didn't locate. I suggest after checking to be sure hyd oil is at the full mark then checking for a blown fuse or faulty wiring/switch.

I'm glad my M7040 has older style controller that hyd reverser is controlled manually with a cable controlled valve not switches/relays

Since the hydraulic shuttle is working, and both the clutch pedal and hydraulic shuttle are connected to the hydraulic shuttle valve, you might also look at the clutch cable and associated linkage. The image below is from the M6060/M7060 WSM and I would expect the M4 to be similar.

Fluid level is good. Always check that before cranking and was good post drive. After further inspection and discussing with dealer i do believe and hope it is the cable linkage. Not for certain but after crawling under and really investigating it doesn't appear to be pulling part #c265xx in linked diagram from cable going to clutch pedal.

Will keep troubleshooting and getting with dealer most likely just to make sure.
