Brand new to the forums here, sorry if I’ve missed a post about this exact thing. Can any owners of this tractor out there post a picture of what the PTO shift lever looks like? I just bought my first tractor, a M4500DT from 1983 and haven’t even gone through all the servicing yet so I’m a tractor newbie for sure.
My first post was going to be about the 3pt speed control lever but I just discovered it beside the auxiliary hydraulic valve under the seat. I also just replaced the hour meter sending unit and cable, which fixed it, plus replaced the voltage regulator to fix the charging system. Many more small fixes to come, plus some restoration. Any help or wisdom is appreciated greatly.

Welcome to OTT. Nice looking tractor. While i don't have a M4500 to take a picture of the PTO shift lever, I can link you to a free copy of the operators manual for your tractor BY CLICKING HERE. It a a pdf file and on pdf page 17 (manual page 10) although not the clearest copy of a manual, it shows the PTO gear shift and PTO clutch control lever and how to operate them.

Welcome to OTT, I hope you enjoy your tractor :)
In addition to the levers mentioned in wgator's post, some M4500s had a 2-speed PTO. The shift lever for that isn't shown in the ops manual, but it's on the right-hand side of the transmission, behind the operators seat. Can't send you a photo because my tractor doesn't have 2 speed, but FishFarmer's does, maybe he can send you a photo but it should be easy to find, if your tractor has it. If it does have the 2-speed PTO, in addition to marking the engine speed for 540rpm PTO , the tacho also shows the engine speed for 1000 rpm PTO.

Sorry, I should’ve been more clear. What I meant to ask is for a picture of what the PTO RANGE shifter looks like, which is an option that came on some but not all of these tractors. I am now fairly confident that mine does not have this option but I’m still curious to see what they look like on a machine with this option included.
I know what the PTO clutch lever and the PTO shift lever are and what they do.
My next real push is a total renewal and revamping of the lighting system specifically, and the wiring system more generally. Thanks for the responses.

Thanks John, you got what I was asking even though I didn’t ask the question correctly. If Fishfarmer sees this post I’m still very curious to see what that lever looks like.

The reason I’m curious is that the tachometer DOES read a second range compared to engine rpms.

Here's a pic from the parts manual. If you think the lever would stick out a long way and catch on things, you're right. So if there's just a stub of a shaft sticking out of the rhs of your diff housing, someone probably took the lever off to avoid catching on stuff.

On single PTO speed versions, the plug 001 fills the gap where the shaft would have been.

If you still aren't sure, post a pic of the right rear side of the diff housing, from about level with the rear axle but a metre or 2 back, I'll have a look.
