I have an older m4000 tractor we bought off forestry family member for mostly bush hog use as pines planted on property. Engine s2200-A. Want to change engine oil and filter, replace fuel filter, and air filter to start. Clear on diesel fuel filter and air filter, but messick's shows spin on oil filter and this tractor oil filter is inside large casing . Found paper filter cartage on ebay only? Manual says remove and clean with kerosene and reinstall. My question, is spin on filter shown a replacement on messicks a viable replacement option? newer option?

thanks jim

I would check with your nearest Kubota dealer or call Messick's. I have a '78 M4500 with the S2600 engine and my filter is a spin on. I would strongly recommend an adapter (if available) to convert to a spin on UNLESS you are going to work in the woods a lot. A spin on can get punctured by branches in the woods and the cartridge type filter canister is more rugged and not prone to that sort of damage.

My manual tells me how to clean the hydraulic filter. Never heard of cleaning a cartridge type engine oil filter but then again I have not heard it all.

thanks but this filter is for engine oil, not hydrolics......tractor is old beast.
That's what I was talking about-the engine oil filter. They are generally have a lot thinner case than a canister type filter. On our M4500, we have a cleanable hydraulic filter but the engine oil filter is a spin on. You made reference to a cleanable filter and I wondered if the manual was referring to that hydraulic filter.
