LP Box Blade-Forward blade will not touch the ground. Impossible

BB1260 on an L2501. Bought the tractor with 12 hours on it, box blade included. Ive put approx. 100 hours on the tractor mainly using a grapple and tooth bucket making trails in the woods. Minimal use with the Box blade filling in holes left by stumps etc. No strenous use on the box blade. I know close to nothing about using one. Tried to improve my grail driveway today. I learned that it is impossible to make the front facing blade touch the ground. With the box blade level and the rear blade touching the ground, the front blade is approx. an inch off the ground. Scarifiers removed, on flat pavement in my shop. Also, the rear blade is at a much steeper(straight up and down) angle than the front blade. Am I missing something? Or did LP really sell a box blade that was that far away from correctly built? Thanks in advance for any advice!

You need to adjust top link.

Both of those implements can have different angles of attack - depending on the top link.

IF you draw the top link in - shorten it - the angle will become more vertical , if you allow the top link to expand, the front of the box blade will rise, and the angle of cut on the blade will increase.

On snow with a scraper blade - the top link expanded will allow the snow to curl up and move away.

Ive tried it all. The front corners of the box blade are digging an inch deep in the gravel driveway and the front blade still isn't touching the ground. Ive shortened the top link as far as is possible. From what I see and read, with the box blade 'level' both front and rear blades should basically be touching at the same time. That is not even close to the way this thing is. In fact. If I tilt it forward until the front corners of the box are touching the ground, the front blade is still 1/2 or more from touching the ground

Try moving your top link to a different hole on the back of your tractor. There should be three different attachment point options.

Keeping in mind I know almost nothing about box blades . . .

In your second picture, I'd expect the front and rear blades to be at equal angles to the bottom edge, but the rear blade is more vertical.

I'd go to the dealer and compare yours to others. That angle is welded on at the factory, so if it's wrong it would be a manufacturing defect. I assume there's no adjustment of the blade to angle?

Without seeing the complete cutting edge top-bottom, my guess is that the cutting edges do not have the mounting holes in the center of the blade. With the holes offset and the front cutting edge being installed with the holes in the lower part and the rear cutting edge being installed with the cutting edge mounting holes in the upper part, the cutting edges are offset from each other causing the issue that you have.

But that is just a guess.

Here is a cross section picture from the Landpride owners manual covering the BB1260 . Looks as if it should not matter on flipping the blades as the bolt holes are in the center. From PawPaw33's picture number #4188 I would suspect that the angle piece that the blades are bolted to was not welded in its proper orientation . It is clear in the drawing that with the bottom edge of the box blade parallel with the ground that the leading blade should engage the soil/material.

I suppose the other cause , especially being the tractor was purchased with a few hours with the box blade that it was backed into something very solid and twisted the cross angle that the blades bolt to.

I thought the OP bought it new. I bought a used box blade when I purchased my New Holland. Some of the rippers were bent. It turns out that someone backed into something very solid and twisted the angle iron that the blades bolt to, My friend welded a new mounting bracket in, and good as new. Before that it was worthless.

Take some measurements and pictures to the dealer and compare yours to what they have on the lot. If it is the same then you will need the serial number, because there might be a bunch of the same lot that are defective. The dealer is in the best position to analyze the problem and come up with a solution.

I'll bet your angle iron mount has been twisted. My friend cut mine out and welded in a new one - problem solved.

Looks to me like either:
- one or both blades are mounted incorrectly, or
- one is an incorrect or unmatched blade, or
- the entire mounting frame they bolt to has been damaged/twisted down at the back

Two more thoughts, are you in the correct top link hole?

The bottom link adjustments have two holes. Change what hole they are in.

From your own picture, your mounting bracket (angle iron) for the cutting edge us twisted. If you don't want to replace the angle iron, maybe you can drill new mounting holes in it to bring the cutting edge lower.

I would bet that if you disconnect and turn the box blade upside down, you can see what the problem is.

Post photos. :)

Thank you to all that have chimed in!! I have zero experience with a box blade until this one. It is certainly possible that it was bent/damaged by the previous owner. If it is indeed bent, it is bent in a very symmetrical way. The rear blade is perfectly straight and touches the floor end to end, and the front is evenly raised end to end. I kinda assumed that if it was bent, then it would not be bent perfectly straight like that. But again, zero experience until now. my only tractor experience is the 100 or so hours spent with the EA grapple and tooth bucket. But, what an entertaining 100 hours it has been. Thanks again for all of the thoughts and suggestions. Merry X-mas to all!!!!!
