Low RPM on PTO

I would like to spread Aglime using my broadcast spreader. Can I run PTO at very low speed so the spreader goes slow and doesn’t sling the AGLime so far and just creates so much lime into the air? I have seen many posts on the PTO operation but not what I am trying to do. This operation is not for large areas or for long. I normally run at 540 on all other implements.

Thanks

Every time I’ve ran a PTO spreader I’ve ran it lower than 540.
You didn’t mention if your tractor is a gear drive or HST. Gear drive just pick the best gear for travel speed that shows good results from the spreader. HST I’d keep it at least 1500 rpm or higher just to help with hydraulic flow in the transmission.

The quick answer is yes. To do it you need to run the tractor at lower RPM's. You don't want to run the engine so slow that it lugs down.

I've read that for tractors equipped with DPF's running at RPM's below rated speed will cause problems. The L2501 doesn't have the DPF so I'm assuming that it would be OK. I have a pre-DPF tractor and usually run around 2K RPM's (sometimes even lower) while mowing. Depending upon the moisture in the grass some blade speeds work better than others.

Are you spreading powder or pellet lime? I wouldn't think pellet would be a problem; if powder, a broadcast spreader is the wrong tool.

When I'm mowing on my 2601 with the MMM I run the engine at 2600 rpm instead of the 2800.
Looking at the torque curve of the engine, at 2600 it puts out the same horsepower, more torque, and uses less fuel.
No difference in cut quality.
