Light duty grapple question

I have a 48” root grapple - work for what it does, has disadvantages. Probably keep it and get a clam shell for general debris. Anyone have/used one like this: 250# 48”, rated for 40hp and below. $1300. I wouldn’t be abusing it. I understand how to operate within something’s limits, but I’m also pretty good with metal fab if o do break something. It is A35 mild steel.

I have never regretted my 48" grapple. Works on general brush piles, logs and heavy loads like this:





The left rear tire was very light in the loafers when I took this pic. I was right on the edge of lifting it off the ground. I went very slow down my road to drop the log on the side where I wanted it:

did a little upgrading to mine today, improved the functionality considerably. I might hold off on a new one for a while yet, until I can fully explore this improvement’s ability to outlast my abuse😁
