Lever not working for 4X4 on 5240

You go to take tractor out of 4-wheel driver and its like the lever is not hooked to anything. i have been looking for ideas how to diganose and fix.
do you have to split the tractor to fix?

If your going to ask advice please include all the tractor model number
Not every L5240 is set up the same.

F, DT, HST, GST, HC, HSTC, ECT are all set up differently.
