Order showed up from Welp Hatchery today. 35 very vocal Cornish Rock birds. 8 weeks till they meet the butcher. Once they get feathers they will move to the outside pen so they can eat grass and bugs along with their feed.

Anybody have experience with using the brooder heaters? (Yellow device in picture). Got it so I didn’t have to use heat lamps but the birds won’t go near it. Ended up setting up the heat lamps late last night to keep them warm. Pulled the brooder out to give them more room.

I have no experience, but I love our neighbors chickens and Guinea Hens.

I get a real kick out of feeding them, and watching them "run" makes me "laugh out loud".

Reminds me of the time when my long-gone grandfather raised a few hundred chickens and a couple dozen turkeys every year. In late October or early November, we had a big slaughter party, and it always was my brother's and my job to do the killing... Still have pictures of one of those happenings - good old times!

Heat lamp always worked well for us.

Heat lamp always worked well for us.

They are much happier with the heat lamp. Got down in the 60’s last night and high today in mid 70’s. Gonna be this way for a week. Birds are happy and I’m happy
