The local K dealer here wants way too much for Kubota Super UDT and I'm wondering if there is a less expensive alternative out there that will fill the bill. Tractor Supply is likely the closest source if you guys have any recommendations I'd love to hear them...... Thanks!

To my knowledge there is no cheaper Super UDT.
There is for UDT but not SUDT2.

Look at how many "quarts-gallons" your machine takes.....

look at the total price......look at another cheaper source - compare that $$$$

THE S-UDT2 is great stuff - winter/summer - etc......why pay for cheaper stuff that will be inferior to it?:)

The OP never stated what tractor he was going to use the fluid in. 25 year old geared transmission or new HST, does make a difference.

You put a less expensive fluid in a machine that needs something better, yes you saved some funds, but keep the difference in a safe place so when you do need repairs it's easily taken care of.:D

The tractor in question is a B3000. My only reason for asking was I'm on a fixed income and I figured at $100+ for a 5 gal. bucket of SUDT2 was stretching it. I'm smart enough to know that branded products like Kubotas are often over priced and comparable products from other vendors like Tractor Supply are likely out there. I was hoping someone might be able to steer me to something comparable yet more affordable. It's a moot point now anyway as I bit the bullet and chose the Kubota S UDT2.... I was able to wrangle a discount so in the end it was a little less painful. Thanks!

They both get the job done, how is it inferior? Why spend the extra money when you do not have to?

I can see the Super duper UDT2 being "easier" on the parts but I kind of like the stickiness of the old stuff. They both work fine or Kubota would not recommend it, right?

I run a Dodge with a Cummins engine for 264k and still counting on conventional oil - it works just fine.
So basically what you are saying is this:

If it worked back then, it is still good enough? - is that it? It works just fine because you change the oil regularly?

How is S-UDT2 easier on parts??? It is NOT slicker, it does not protect better, it does not have any magic dust in it that makes it "easier" on parts!!! It pours with a much lower viscosity it does not break down as easy - and it works on a smaller molecular level.

Stickiness??? In a grease I get it ....in a hydraulic oil - no - I don't get it.

You ever worked a hydraulic system of "old" when the temperature was the teens????? It is a slow as molasses in winter going uphill!!!!!

I had a 53 Ford Jubilee that would take damn near forever to "warm" up the hydraulics - simple because the viscosity difference!! It had the run of the mill oil from Tractor supply or where ever. It worked like hell - My BX will operate just like summertime when cold ....cannot tell the difference.

Next time you are in Wally-world - look at the oil shelf ....what cha see? Very little conventional oil, if not 50% more like 70% is semi-syn or full synthetic.
If you want a quart of 30 weight .....you are going to have to look for it - and there are only one brand!!!

Last one - WHY is it so hard to understand, that as time progresses - some things get better?

Every hour you run your tractor - it will be savings in the wallet. Despite the C-Note spent, that is cheap insurance, and the benefits will be clear once you run your machine in the cold, hot and years to come!;)

You made the right choice. One 'benefit' from using synthetic-based lubricants which has not been mentioned is the lower churning-losses.

Every moment your engine is running, it has to work against all the fluids (engine-oil, gear-lube, hydraulic-fluids....etc) Simply by switching from dyno-oil to synth-oil everywhere, you should realize fuel savings.

Several times, in 4X4 vehicles, I have switched all the gearboxes from dyno to synth and MEASURED better MPG. Lets not forget that a typical 4X4 truck has Front-differential, Rear-differential, Xfer-case, manual-Xmission, and engine lube.

I want the part# for this magic dust 85Hokie was talking about.

Does it come with a wand or is it in a bucket?

Dang, I was hoping it came in a bucket. I wanted to pour it over some worn out junk and turn it into a shiny new toy.

Some people do not realize that the magic elixir needs to be put INTO the mechanical device while it is still in good shape.

Waiting until it is junk... then changing the fluids is too-little, too-late.

The cheaper alternative to brand name.....

I took it as "I bought a Kubota but should have bought a Kioti".

SUDT2 is good stuff. Seen WAY too many tractors come through the shop with cheapo fluid that says "meets kubota specification" on the bucket, but with hydraulic issues. Everything from cylinder issues to HST issues to, well one I am working with now...M8540 cab, 3 point hitch position control valve has an issue, 3ph inoperative. Lifted the cab, removed the lift assembly, flipped it over, disassembled valve and found one spool stuck-causing the whole problem. Call customer with $800 estimate for all work, he goes berserk and asks why so expensive (remember I had to lift the cab to get the 2 front nuts off), then says ok fix it....I ask what kind of hydraulic oil he runs (it smells weird), TSC cheap stuff. There ya go. Saved $100, spend $800. Is it the fluid's fault? Dunno. I'm not an engineer, I just fix stuff; all I know is that too many tractors that come through with hydraulic problems have cheap oil in them.

I bought 10 gal of SUDT for my Massey Ferguson, of all things, and it really smoothed out the operation of the power steering, 3ph, and PTO clutch.

Sure was FRAM............ back in the day when a name brand product meant something.......not so sure any more. Now days it seems that companies we use to trust no longer make the product they once made!

I have a story about Kubota Super UDT vs regular hydraulic oil. I bought a L3830 new in 2006. When I did the 50 hour service I had 15+ gallons of great looking oil. I had a new log splitter that had always had a whine in the pump. I drained out the generic Wally World oil and put in used Super UDT. The pump got quiet and has been ever since. What does it mean? I think it means the Kubota oil is better. You draw your own conclusions. As for me, nothing but Kubota Super UDT+ in my equipment.
