Thanks Hodge, that means alot. I would be proud to add you to my list as well. :D
Of course, by the time I would drive to Georgia, I could justify buying it. Yesss... justification for tools.

Hodge, not sure where Love Va. is but it's a good 4 hrs for me to get to Bristol. When my Grandma lived near Richmond it was about 9 - 10 hrs to get to her house. I'll just leave it like this, if you get down this way you are more than welcome at my place.

It's about a 3 1/2 hour trip to Bristol from here.
Love, VA is a tiny community, with no post office (there used to be one in the earlier 1900's), so it isn't found on a map. There are about 90 residents, and it starts at the bottom of a mountain, and ends at the top of Love Gap, on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The nearest landmark is Sherando Lake, part of the George Washington National Forest. It is very quiet, very peaceful, and very simple here.

Years ago I lent my best friend my floor jack to do some brake work on his car. When I had something to do on my car I called him and asked for my jack back. He said that he didn't have my jack. i reminded him that he used it for the brake work and then he remembered "oh yeah, it is in Louis's garage". We had to change a tire.

If I still had all of the tools that I have lent out and never got back and the ones that I lost to Hurricane Katrina, I could probably open a tool store.

I have lots of tools, all owned & paid directly (none of that Snap-on account stuff). Because I had more tools than anyone else, it wasn't uncommon for them to borrow them. The sure-fire way to get my tools back by the end of the day was to hold on to their car keys. :p Of course, that was only for certain tools that I trust them with. Eventually they got around to getting their own.

you're not alone to say the least. I have a very small list of people i will lone certain things to but that doesn't include my tractors or big trailer. I have a couple of small trailers i may lone out but the line has to be drawn somewhere. I was burned pretty bad once when my stepdad let someone borrow my phd. I didn't know it was gone and during that time he had a stroke. His memory was affected and he couldn't remember who borrowed it. I don't hold it against him but loosing a nearly new phd wasn't cheap. I feel like some of the other guys said, it's cheaper to take it to them do the job and then return home with it that night.
whats a phd ?????? Just wondering

ahh didnt get that abreviation bet i would have if i owned 1 and i will some day when i come across 1 at the rt price
down at local dealer u can get a used 1 with say 12" auger for bout $ 500

thx for the info
May not be the best on the market but you can get a brand new one from Tractor Supply for $420 and then a 12" auger is about $150.

I found a worn out PHD and replaced the auger with a 12" one from TSC. Have no complaints so far, it really does a nice job.

Some times you learn what NOT to do from your old man. He isn't a good borrower, and I picked up on that growing up.

As a young man, I borrowed a couple belly boats( inflatable inner tubes thta you fish out of) from my uncle. I did not return them in a timely manner and left them in my boat and they did not weather well. He reminded me during thanksgiving dinner that he would like them back. Long story short I ordered 2 new ones from Cabelas and had them delivered to his house.to my surprise he was thrilled as his were about 20 yrs old and he wanted new one anyway. Since that time, 15 yrs ago he has let me use his new Kubota, pontoon boat, trailer etc...

Most importantly, I learned to be more responsible with not only other people's things but my own as well. Now I return things fueled, greased, lubed etc.. Oh and in a timely manner.

You are obviously a guy that doesn't like to borrow because you buy your own equipment. I am the same way.
I just don't loan much out and if I do I write "what and when to who"
I have a GREAT neighbor, Henry, that I will even loan my tractor to because he uses it PROPERLY and GENTLY.

I had a situation that just came up last week. A friend needed to get two ponies from a horse farm outside of Richmond (Eric's stomping grounds), and hemmed and hawed about borrowing my truck and my dads horse trailer. I told her no way (she is forward, and can take me being forward), but that I would go get them for her. On the way back, my truck developed problems, and we had to get my dad to come pull the trailer home. If the truck had broken down on her, right or wrong, my first response would be "What did you do to my truck?!? But, it was much better that it happened to me. It was just a thing, but me driving my trucked saved her from feeling bad, and me from overreacting.

hodge, That is exactly what I will do.....I would rather do it myself for them than letting them have control of my equipment.
