Had a long talk with the little brother. He brought up how some of his friends knew or thought they knew of his older bro.

Top 3.

1. Long hair, black leather jacket , engineer boots, and shorty helmet with a cigar and flask. A bad ass not to be messed with.
2. Long hair, tie dyed tee, and ratty sneakers smoking a joint. A liberal hippie snowflake.
3. Ponytail, suit, tie and laptop. A respected top tech in a world of nerds and geeks.

We laughed as only my wife and dogs really had any grasp of the inner workings. Perhaps I need to put a straight pipe on the "B" along with a flower power sticker. A paisley tie as a sweatband to top it all off.

I bet many here have split personalities that they never knew of until someone else made their own opinion of you.

I'm a Gemini...
rare, but whenever I get into a potential 'physical problem', I tell them 'I'm a Gemini and that even I do NOT want to 'upset' the other guy in me'.

Been in the south for a while but grew up on Long Island (Commack). Wife handles most stuff but if she runs into a problem, she allows me to pull out my New Yorker attitude... It ain't pretty, and it's not; on or off, when it's on... IT ON!!! And it's pretty darn ugly...

Yeah, I'm not a Gemini but there's a side of me I don't even like. I try to keep it suppressed, but sometimes somebody hits the switch.

We call that a NYC attitude. A lot of the state ain't like that.
Around here, that attitude is call downstate tourist or summer folk.
Cousin was a housing cop in Queens. He had a real attitude until he got into the 518 area code and then he mellowed within a few hours. His grandfather had an upstate farm and didn't take any attitude.

^^^^^

Yeah 'attitude' (where unwarranted) only exists because weak people allow it.

It doesn't fly around my place. My dogs get to have 'attitude'...but that's part of their job.

Most people, when they first meet me, think I’m nice, not very bright, and probably live in a dumpy rented trailer somewhere. That’s partly true. Never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed.

Even after over 30 years at my job I’m still almost surprised when I’m told (not infrequently) by one of my “customers” that they thought I was a nice, kind of stupid guy right up until they were served with the warrant/summons (it varies) they just received but they now realize they told me WAY too much. And that’s OK with me.

Edit: The best ones are the ones that “ain’t from around here.” A little throwback to the thicker southern accent of my youth pretty much always confirms the Hollywood stupid southerner stereotype long enough to quietly tie a rope and yank it hard.

Don't you love when they get the "Oh Crap" look.
I had to deal with a phd from the land of the CASTE system. He found me knee deep in my job. He proceeded to explain how important he and his project where and that I better get my act in gear. After 10 minutes I just walked away. The engineer for my area just keep his head down. Once they walked out of the floor my engineer started to laugh while explaining to the pHD that within a hour his projects are going to be slow walked through the entire building. Two weeks later he found his data stream was down to a trickle and his projects keep getting lost in transfer from area to area. Techs and operators hated to be pigeon holed.

My kids were labeled when we moved back north. They had picked up a slight drawl after being raised in Va. School was surprised that they were all a grade or two ahead of the northern peers.

I also had to deal I had to deal with a phd from the land of the CASTE system. He had PHD in optical engineering, and demanded that everyone drop whatever he or she was doing to do his bidding. He was not the least bit nice or cordial about it, and would constantly yell at people, and ask the question "Do you know who I am & what I have accomplished? You are here to here to do what ever I tell you to do!"
Needless to say, no one did any work for him, and pretty much ignored him, which POed him all the more.

Our boss & several scientists & engineers had an "intervention" with him to explain that he was not in the "old" country, and things worked differently here. They sent him to some classes on how to get the most of your employees, and his attitude & people skills slowly got better. He eventually became a pretty nice guy, who was decent to work for, and actually accomplished a lot for our group.

He told us later that he was from a very rich family, and every member of his family had a hired "kickboy" to kick when they needed something, or just felt frustrated about something. He said it was a common practice in his country, and involved hiring someone from a much lower caste.

Different cultures. o_O

Incidentally, after working there for about 15yrs, they caught him cheating (grossly) on his timesheet & reporting false expenses.
He explained that he was worth more (in his opinion) than they paid him. After two warnings, he kept doing it, so they fired him.

Go figure.
