Hello all. Sorry for being so green here but the forums have helped me a ton.

My LA402 on a B2910 does not go into float. I am not sure if its a user issue or a hydraulic one. I push the lever up then push again but i do not feel and detent or click to go into float. I have tried to tap up 2x with no luck. She only has 20 hours on her.

Is it me?

Hard to tell from your description.

Are there two forward positions? That is, at one point the bucket lowers and then there is a second, further, forward point where it goes into float. It should hold that second point.

Tapping up twice isn't how it works.

Some FELs have a lock out that prevents the float/detent lock position. Make sure there is not a metal flap or pin that is keeping it from going into that second forward point.

Unbelievable as it sounds, there are some FELs that go into float with the lever all the way back. You might give it a try for giggles.

Thank you for the advice! The sticker says up then up again for float. I cant seem to get it to the second up position so I will check to see if there is a pin or a metal block on the top of the valves.

I will report back

took the cover off today to expose the hydraulics and nothing was stopping the command stick from moving up more. I even adjusted the tie rod and no such luck. I think my hydraulic unit must be bad?

I find that the B2910 was made in 2000. You only have 20 hours on a tractor made in 2000? Do you have a 3 digit hour meter? Must have at least 1020 hours on it?

As far as I know, all Kubota loaders sold in 2000 have "float". Do you have a lot of play or slop in your loader joystick?

You need to clarify if its
(a) not going into float or its
(b) not staying in float.

To determine if its going into float slowly push the lever forward and raise the front wheels off the ground. Then keep pushing the lever until the front wheels suddenly drop to the ground (or not) . If they drop then you have found float.

Mine wont go into float

Check to make sure all your hoses are correctly connected.

Its a long shot, but assuming you actually have a float and its not being restricted by a gate, it could be a jammed detent mechanism thats preventing the lever being pushed far enough to reach the float position. It can happen on older units that get full of rust and muck (or ice) but its hard to see it happening in such a new unit. Then again something in the detent mechanism could have broken giving you a similar result.

The silver things in the centre of the attached pic are the detent mechanisms of my old B1550. They are attached to the back end of the control unit (Yours is probably different but might be similar). The detent is basically just a ball/spring arrangement that grips the end of the valve spool and holds the lever in the float position. But note that it doesn't 'provide' float. It just 'holds it' in float. Even if the detent is busted (like mine is) you should still be able to manually hold the lever in the float position, provided the detent is not clogged with muck.

Its not complicated but it has some small bits that can go flying. Don't mess around with it unless you are reasonably mechanically proficient.

"Unbelievable as it sounds, there are some FELs that go into float with the lever all the way back. "

That sounds dangerous. Wouldn't that cause the loader to drop suddenly?
