No real good way to "flush" the system.
Just let it drain completely and replace with new fluid.

OK my parts kit came in, such as it is. There is not much in it and from what it looks like after taking the valve apart not much of it gets used. The kit is the first picture, it cost $140.00.

The next pictures are what I need help with. How do I collapse the spring so I can unscrew the screw.

And finally, as you can see in the kit there are 5 check balls. So far with the spool valve out I haven't seen any check balls. Also there isn't enough o-rings or the right springs, in short I see what people are talking about when they complain about dealers. On top of this mine sure is rude.

Use a spring compressor or a vise.

The check balls are for the detent is it has it, some valves don't.
Show us a picture of the valve body.

There were two spring loaded check valves, here is a picture.
They are a little fuzzy but do they tell you what you need to know?

Can I use a water based cleaner on this valve or should I use diesel?

OK I am sure that the rebuild kit is a wast of money. Out of the two orings included only one can be used and I need two. There is two springs and again only one can be used and the valve takes three.

Now to the problem, in the first pictures you will see the spool valve. On the bottom is a spring that is held on with a screw. That is the spring that I ant to change. To remove the screw I made a tool to collapse the spring, that will be the next pictures. Even with the spring collapsed I can't turn the screw. Has anyone done the job before, if you have please HELP. The only thing I can think to do is to cut the spring off and then try to remove the spring. Like I said the kit has a new spring and one retaining cap. It should have two caps but oh well.

I wish you good luck with the valve job. However, even though others say I maybe wrong, I suspect the seals on the piston in one hydraulic cylinder having blown. Reason is that the valve likely would twist the bucket up and not down, or vise versa for one motion only.. However, if the packings on the piston were shot, it wouldn't tip either way if valve was bad. Also if you have two pistons, if one is shot both won't work due to one bypassing all fluid. Finding which one is then a trick that may be found by pinching a hose. I hope I am wrong. However I have been thru this once, messing with the valve for no reason..

Do you have the part # to the kit you got?
Is your valve remote or standard?

This is the problem, the bucket would dump but not tilt up, the boom would go up and down.

That's what I thought, wrong kit for that valve.
That is a detent kit for the main valve. Kit A
To rebuild that main valve (up and down)
You would need 3 kits:
A:75540-61420
D:75540-99700
B:75540-61430
The valve you are working on (roll back valve) takes a different set of kits.
C:75540-61470
E:75540-99800

I'll give my standard response, go back and slap your parts guy upside the head and tell him to get another job. :p

The valve in yellow is the roll back valve.

My new parts just came in. No one said anything about using water based cleaner so I am going town to get some solvent to clean the housing. Wish me luck.

Well I have the spool valve together. I used diesel to clean the outside and brake cleaner to do the inside. I then sprayed it with compressed air. When I assembled the spool I used trans fluid to lubricate the internal parts. To get the spring off the spool I had to cut the retaining cup and pull the spring off. I then used vicegrips to remove the screw. Putting the new spring and retainer cups on the spool was easy. The new screw was a Allen head, much better than a flat head.
Here are some pictures.

PS Because it is snowing and the wind is blowing I am going to wait until the weather is better to install it. So I won't know if it works until latter.

Well it didn't work, the dealer said the most of the time the valve has to be replaced.
Recap;
The bucket will dump but not curl up, the boom will go up and down. There is no leaks, all the lines are hooked up correctly and the linkage is correct. I switched the lines and the result was that the boom would go up but not down and the bucket worked both in the dump and curl mode.
I rebuilt the spool valve with no change.
I just talked with the dealer and he thinks the housing has a crack in it. When I had the spool valve apart I did notice what I thought was a scratch but on reflection could have been a crack. With no other ideas I will order a new valve.
Thanks for your help, if any of you have any other ideas let me know.
