Hey yall... I have a relatively new L5460 with a Loader, no Cab. I recently purchased Kubota's block heater #70000-00297 and went to install it today. I choose to remove the starter and remove the frost plug 2nd from the flywheel (not the one directly behind the starter, the one right next to it).

I've pulled a decent amount of frost / freeze plugs and have not seen too many things similar to this. (Mainly deal with performance cars and motorcycles). I fear the block heater adapter / threaded extension will not have enough sealing area, and it definitely will not go in until its "seat" if I tried to tap it in.

I called a couple dealers, the first 2 didn't have a clue how to install a block heater on the 5460 and the third dealer called me back with a message and said "he was reading this directly from the instructions." He said "It states that the adapter must be installed in the frost plug hole directly behind the starter, closest to the fly wheel which requires machining 6mm off the end of the block heaters adapter." Is there a place I can read these instructions myself? hah.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this? I definitely don't want to start blasting more freeze plugs out of my 300 hour tractor, but really need the heater installed.

The instructions I received with the #70000-00297 do not mention the L5460 at all.

Title
Block Heater Installation: L-series, MX series with V2403 Tier 4 engines.
Subject

Issue
Issue:
The block heater cannot go in the hole specified by the instructions due to an EGR coolant line being in that post ion.
Solution
Solution:
The block heater should be installed in the rearmost hole on the left-hand side of the engine near the starter. In some cases, the starter may need to be removed for installation. The bushing that comes in the block heater kit will need to be machined down by 6 mm in order to fit properly. See the attached pictures for more details.

Ah! You are awesome! That is precisely the information I was looking for. Is the rear most hole any different than the hole I already have the freeze plug out of?

Do you think it would be "ok" after taking 6mm off the bushing to install it in that hole that I have the plug out of? There is pretty decent access to the one I have it out of already, and there is nothing in the way.

Obviously if it messes with anything in the computer or the hole behind the starter is different / deeper I will just need to bite it and reinstall a plug in the hole I foolishly removed one from and then proceed to remove the one to the right of it / behind it! -_-

Either way, you have been extremely helpful already! Thank you! Thank you!
