I have a bad regulator on my L4850. The problem is I can't find it. I believe it is behind the tin of the dash, but I can't figure out how to remove the metal covers to get at the regulator. Any suggestions?

check with any of the online parts websites to get an idea what's involved. I use the Canadian Kubota site often to 'see' what's involved. #040 seems to be the regulator.....

It's on the back of the shuttler plate (fire wall)

To get to it remove the panel board (instrument panel)

Since you will be removing the instrm panel, you will need to lift it up and disconnect the wires connected to it and also remove the tachometer cable (shown in diagram above so I am assuming it is there).

Sometimes you need to disconnect the far end of the tachometer cable to even move the dash up. So don’t just yank hard on the instrument panel thinking it will move easily.

The wires are probably in connectors going into the dash so you can get them off but some may have ring terminals. Look at the illustrated parts list HERE for information on the wire harness. The connectors will have some type of locking mechanism that will prevent it from being easily removed (I assume).

Might need to disconnect the battery but I am afraid of that on more modern tractors after seeing reports of ECU being damaged by battery replacement…

Good luck

Same as on my L5450 - above posts from greensville jay and wolfman show it under the dash panel - I think the harness to it just unplugs.

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem is removing the instrument panel. It requires removing the steering wheel, shift lever, and several other connections. It would have been several hours work. What I ended up doing is cutting the two spot welds on the left hand metal panel so I could pull it back enough to reach in and remove the regulator. It seems like this was a very poor location as far as access goes.
