L48 start problems

If this is an L48, they have HST trans. With it in neutral and brakes set, put 12v directly to the large terminal on the starter. IF it starts, get your work done before trying to shut it off. If it keeps going, slow it to an idle and starve it for air with something covering the intake.

Of course the key has to be in the run position to let it run?? Don’t know enough about the wiring on the L48 to make a positive statement but it will let it charge the battery while running if key is on.

I guess my old L185 would start without the key in on position I have never tried it. It will run with key off for sure. No computer chips or relays involved with it.

Your looking for 4 safety switches according to the schematic. PTO, seat, clutch, and range selector.
There's also a large 50amp fuse next to the starter. If thats blown, it won't crank with the key but it would still have power to jump the solenoid at the starter.

I know its not the safest idea, but I'm kind of glad the previous owner bypassed all those switches. It came from a landscaping company, so I could see a lot of down time at a jobsite chasing gremlins. I'm not suggesting it, just stating whats been done to my L48.

I have jumpered the seat, pro, clutch, and the forward/reverse foot pedal with no success. Not sure how to jump the gear selector because it’s a three wire connector.
