Hi Everyone,

Sorry for leeching, but I need some more guidance. I removed the seat (sheesh is that thing heavy) and got a good look at the control valve assembly. Is it normal for there to be leaked fluid around the valve? I'm assuming not.

The up/down plunger (sorry, I don't know the correct name for that part) seems to be super-stiff, hence the broken boom lever (part 90 on the attached diagram). I don't want to break the new boom lever (or damage the valve further), so does anyone have any tips or diagrams regarding tearing the valve down to look for the cause of the stiffness?

Thanks!

Get the WSM for your tractor and it will give you a complete breakdown of the teardown and repair procedure. ;)

I've been working too much, sorry for the delay. To be clear it was the control linkage for the RR binding and not the valve itself. My FEL works fine but I can try for pictures if you want them. The orientation in the drawings is not always right.

No problem! Don't worry about pics yet, but thanks for offering. I've read about a lot of 4740 owners having problems with corrosion in the FEL control valve...I'm hoping that's all it is, and that it's repairable.

I hope to tear into it this weekend and I'll post an update once I open it up.

There is a thread from 2010 or so that just got revived about a cure/fix for this problem. Sorry I don't have it to hand.
I think I know the thread you're talking about, there was an older thread by Butch that was recently bumped to the top dealing with corrosion in the valve control assembly.

I took the control valve assembly apart this weekend and was pleased to see that there was no corrosion or other obvious sign of a problem. My new boom lever assembly should be in on Tuesday so hopefully I'll be back in business soon.
