In the old days I would tap the starter with hammer . This on occasion worked. Certainly not a long term solution. Sounds like your battery is kaput. Take it to an auto parts store and they will check it for you. If it needs replacing measure it and maybe head to Walmart as has been advised here. Good luck

Double check whether your PTO is engaged. Dash would light up, I could hear some clicking, connections were all clean, charged battery all night...I had moved the PTO lever out of the way (engaged) while working on hydraulics. Started right up when I disengaged the PTO.

Pto is definitely not engaged. It’s in neutral, brake is on, hydrostatic is in neutral. So if was safety thing it wouldn’t click? Lights all come on including headlight, hooked up to jumper cables with truck same thing I don’t think battery. Maybe relay somewhere?

Might be time to try (with the key off and gear in neutral ) going straight to the starter with jumpers and see if it turns over.

Thanks for help guys, I don't think it is a battery issue. It hasn't shown any signs of being weak, lights work, etc. It is a HST. I don't know how to jump it between starter and battery. The way it sits in the tractor doesn't seem near what I think is the starter. Anyone have a diagram of where I could find the starter on a L4701

Tractor batteries are often not near the starter!
Seems like at a minimum, you REALLY do need a WSM........for diagrams, pictures, and descriptions!

I went through this a few days ago.

I would recommend that you do the voltage drop tests. I you don't have a multimeter then do as others have suggested and clean the battery posts and the connectors at both ends of the battery cables.

I will attach the test procedure so you won't have to search for it.
