Hello,
The water pump on my L4150 has started leaking, presumably from the rear seal as the water is coming out the small hole on the pump body.

If I could get it apart then I may be able to replace the seal but the only way seems to be to remove the impeller and it seems to be a resistance (heat ?) fit.

Probably easier just to buy a whole new pump, does anyone know where I could get one in the UK or further afield if the shippings isn't more than the part?

Thanks,
Gordon.

Check this link. They list the former part number 17381-73030 - maybe they can still supply the original type item (good design considering yours has lasted 40 years?)

If you can't find one there or a seller here that will ship you one, just send me a PM and I'll forward one on to you.

Thanks, I'll email them to see if they can supply this or a similar unit, I think there is a newer one with a similar part number.

I managed to get it apart by using heat but have destoyed the rear bearing as well as the seal, to be honest it looks like the rear seal has been gone for a while and bearing is covered in rust.

If so then I have been running it for a while with no pump but only recently detected this when used for extended periods and it started to overheat. I could probably rig it up to turn the fan, remove the thermostat, and put a plate at the back of the pump to stop the leak which should enable me to use it for light work until the new pump arrives.

Otherwise this going on 40 year old girl is pretty good.

Gordon.

I understand the desire to get it going quickly, but I'll really caution you that even with the old water pump leaking, it was still moving water, thus was still helping keeping it cool.
You really don't want it to overheat, as the heads are known to crack when they overheat, and the head for that tractor is REALLY REALLY hard to find to find and really really expensive when you do find one, like $3K expensive.
So proceed with extreme caution!!!
