Bled lines, definitely have fuel to lift pump, when cranking, no fuel to injector pump. Hold thumb over line and no pressure builds. (this was in new pump which I just exchanged) Haven't installed new one yet but....question is..how fast should cam be turning at cranking speed? mine goes at about one rev per second, also, what kind of flow should I be getting from that pump to injector pump?
ps. had tractor for years with no major issues

This is clear as mud.

You have a pump that isn't giving pressure - the lift pump? Is this the old lift pump or the new lift pump that isn't building pressure?

There will be only minor flow out of the lift pump, it's low pressure and low flow.
Don't block the output, all you do is damage the pump doing that.

The lift pump's pressure and flow are both pretty low. The lift pump is permanently assembled so its not possible to inspect its little one-way flapper valves inside - dirt can get past the filter and keep them from sealing. Or the diaphragm can fail. A new lift pump is usually the answer.

Yea, could have worded it better. Original lift pump did not seem to do anything, new pump was no different. Removed new pump and submerged it a container of fuel, depressed plunger manually and got hardly anything. Exchanged it (dealer was good) have yet to test or install pump number three, But question remains, how fast should that cam be turning, I would guess mine is about one rev per second. OK, get it about not blocking output of pump.

Cam speed is dependent on engine speed, but it doesn't match engine speed. It's a ratio. I don't know if one per second is good or not, but if both pumps behave the same, there are two possibilities that I can see:

  1. There's nothing wrong with either pump. Look elsewhere for the source of the problem.
  2. Your pump is shot and the new one is bad out of the box.

Guessing it was #2. Installed replacement and all is good, thankfully.

There are lots of "bad out of the box" stories on every automotive/equipment forum, these days. :(

It's sure great to have our manufacturing ripped out of America and shipped overseas, isn't it?

Glad you got it working, and thanks for letting us know! (y)
