Checked all bearings and other gears all appear to be fine. I discovered water in one of the front axles and spoke to the last user he says that last winter when he tried to move the tractor it was stuck and he forced things and heard a noise so never used it again. I suspect that the axle was frozen and in 4x4 he damaged the pinion and crown.
The axle seem fine also (seal broken but all gears etc. good (lucky :0)
I priced the crown and pinion here and it is $631.00 Canadian so not bad compared to your prices (shipping and exchange would eat the difference and more)
Have ordered the parts, will update as I progress.
Thanks

Front differential reassembled and installed. All seems well. Have the snow blower reconditioned also so I am ready for snow.
Now to the restoration I started out to do. This tractor was my Fathers and has been left in the salt air for years. All the sheet metal is rusted away. With the expense of the front end repair I will have to make "home made" fenders and bonnet parts for this winter.
