L4060 vs L4760 real world loader capacity comparison

Still looking for the right used Grand L and wondering if I should expand the list from the larger L6060,5460, and 4760 to include the 4060. I felt I wanted the larger models to use the LA1055 loader with higher lift capacity than the 4060 with the LA805. But if I only load the rear tires of these models for ballast will the higher capacity of the 1055 be safely realized?

If you don't add ballast beyond loaded tires, you probably won't even be able to use full lifting capacity of the LA805. I have the L3560 with loaded tires and the LA805 and I need the box blade on the back to get full lifting capacity.

Loader tires are helpful to increase traction, bit have limited benefit as ballast.

Oh really? I couldn't pick up this disc harrow before the rear tires were filled with beat juice and wheel weights added. Weight on the rear axle does make a difference and it can make a significant difference at that. You want to guess how much that Schaffer disc harrow weighs?

On my 4760 I have rear tires loaded and 200lbs of weights per tire the rear of the tractor still lifts depending on what material I am loading in the bucket. When I add my 1k lb ballast box, I get full use of the lift capacity of the loader regardless of the material I am loading in the bucket.

I have a MX5200 with loaded rear tires. I carry my 60" tiller to get full use of my 1055 loader

Weight out back on the 3-point makes a big difference for sure, and if you need it then you need it, but stating that liquid ballast and/or wheel weights has "limited benefit as ballast" is incorrect. Anyone who actually uses their equipment soon learns where the limitations are. With liquid ballast and wheel weights and nothing on the 3-point, I can pick up a lot more stuff with the MX or M that I couldn't safely lift without them. For those times when I'm pushing the limits then yes, I'll put weight out back too, but it's rarely needed.

I detest one-size-fits-all statements that are indicative of laziness or ignorance or both. There's a lot of nuance in the world of tractors, and in the world in general.

Weight on axles and tires are great for both traction and lift.
Weight on the three point has the added benefit of pulling loader weight off the front axle.

Short answer - fill the tires.

My previous tractor was an L3200 with the LA524. It was adequate for most of what I wanted it to do, but sometimes it would have been nice to have a few hundred more pounds of lift. It had loaded rears and almost always had something om the TPH.

My L4240 has the LA854 loader as does my BIL's L4740. The capacity of these loaders fall between the two you are considering. Both of us have liquid ballast in the rear tires and usually have something on the TPH. Both of us generally have mowers on the rear all Summer. Winter TPH implements range from nothing to blades to (in his case) a blower.

I've used his 4740 and it feels just a tad more powerful and larger. I remember stepping down off of his tractor and getting tripped up a bit. I didn't measure to see if his step is higher so don't know if it was my lack of agility or muscle memory of mine being closer to the earth.
