L4060 - Pump Cavitates Occasionally??? Everything stops working.

Hi all! I have an L4060, occasionally when using our tractor the pumps begins cavitiating, all motions of the tractor become very jittery and then once in a while not mobile. Leave it sit for a day and everything works like new.. SOMEHOW??? The rubber connector going into the return side of the pump I have already replaced and the fluid is clean and at the top of the permissible range on the dipstick. Anyone have any input? This one has me stumped. Could be the pump itself? Sounds like its just sucking air but I have no idea where else to look either than just the return side to the sump.. Bad seal on a hydraulic filter?

I think there was a long thread that dealt with a similar issue on an L4760 by dgtvfixr (IIRC). Look into this. Seems to have solved his issues.

Some tractors have a fine screen on the suction side of the hydraulics. You could check for blockage.

I am currently experiencing a similar problem on a 2005 L5030. When hitting a dirt pile with the bucket, the hydraulic pump cavitates, while the HST quits pushing. I have found so far that there is a large amount of air pulling into the line running to the hydraulic pump from the oil cooler. I am still working on it, but we might have the same problem. Did you find any metal in your fluid or filters?

Have you found a solution yet? How many hours on this machine? Sounds like you are getting air in form somewhere. You can look at the fix that I posted like lugbolt suggested but your issues sound a little different than mine where. After running the tractor for 2-3 hours running pto mowing I would start to lose steering felt like it was hitting a stop in the middle of the steering range. The return from the steering was allowing air into the pump return. I rerouted the return steering to tank in rear and plugged off the return on the back of the pump. You either have to be getting air or input to pump is getting blocked. The suction line is a common problem on these for getting air but looks like you already changed it.
