L4060 HST 50 hr maintenance

My service maintenance manual identifies what needs to be replaced at the first 50 hr mark by double ringed circles. Those items are engine oil, engine oil filter and HST filter. The Hydraulic filter shows replacement at 400 hrs. My dealer says that the service manual applies to different models and that the HST model requires a hydraulic filter change at 50 hrs. I'm skeptical since it clearly doesn't indicate what he says in the manual.

Either he's wrong or the manual is wrong. Tried calling Kubota Canada and it's impossible to speak to anyone in the service dep't, only option is to leave voicemail so I'm canvassing opinions here.

What say you?

Normal would be to replace both transmission oil filter (HST) and hydraulic oil filter.

Should be done at or after 50 hours to catch anything loosed by break-in.

We always change all filters and fluid at 50 to get rid of breakin metal sand and other trash. You be surprised how much metal see stick to magnet on hydro suction filter

Understood, but I don't why the manual would say replace hydraulic filter at 400 hrs if that's the case. That's a big gap from 50 hrs to 400.

The manual is not "wrong", but it is the bare minimum of maintenance. There are a dozen threads here on this question- usually people not wanting to spend $100 on new SUDT fluid or a $20 filter at 50 hours after spending $40,000 on a new tractor- pound foolish. The real world experts here recommend changing all the filters and all the fluids at 50 hours. I took their advice- why not?

My dealer recommended changing the Engine/Hydraulic Oils & Filters. I would have done so anyway, shape or form.

That's a reasonable explanation, and I've read those other posts although most don't pertain to my tractor model so not sure if that makes a difference or not, I'm thinking likely not.

I think I will just go ahead and replace all filters and fluids.

My L2501 and my rtv both manuals state to just replace both hst filters at 50hrs. At 200 hours, things change a bit..The L2501 the transmission fluid filter gets replaced again, but not until 400 hours do you replace the fluid and the hydraulic filter. Now on the rtv at 200 hours you replace both hst filters and the hydraulic oil, then at 400 hours both hst filters and the hydraulic oil, and the transmission fluid.
I did replace both filters and the hyd and tranny fluid at 200 hours on my rtv. I noticed that the transmission fluid looked dirtier than the hyd oil, so I felt better replacing the tranny fluid early.

The fluid, because of the large volume, is the costly portion. The filters are what $50-70 each?

Now I also noticed in the manual for both my 2018 MX and my 2019 L series the policy has changed...it used to be change both the hydraulic and HST filters at 50 hours, leave the fluid until 400 hours. Now it is just change the HST filter at 50, leave the other filter and fluid until 400 hours.

I will give you two examples - on my 2013 B2920, I did change both HST and hydraulic filters at around the 50 hour mark. However, the fluid remained unchanged at 600 hours when I traded it in. Tractor ran / operated perfectly.

The other example was my 2002 L4310 GST. I purchased the tractor at 479 hours. This tractor only had one filter since it was a GST and not an HST transmission. However, it was the original factory gray paint until I had the dealer change the fluid and filter at 522 hours. Tractor operated perfectly.

My 2018 MX...I did end up replacing both filters instead of just one at 72 hours. Fluid will be left alone until 400 hours. I'll do the same on my new L2501.

Engine oil changes I am much more strict with.

I wish. Both mine hold 54 quarts or 3 5 gallon pails with some left over. Usually 250 bucks a change plus filters (2 at 30 a piece). Part of ownership and reliability down the road.
