I am looking to add a 3rd function to my newly purchased L4060 tractor with LA805 front end loader. I have found a WR Long kit and a Kubota kit. The Kubota kit is more expensive than the WR Long kit. I am curious what you all recommend for a 3rd function kit for this tractor. Thanks!

One major difference is the Kubota kit can be ordered with an option ($$$) that will operate the latches on the SSQA. You can switch buckets abd forks without leaving the seat. I think there may also be some joystick button advantages with the Kubota option. Otherwise money talks.

I just installed the Kubota kit after research and it is really good. Someone posted instructions on here for a l6060 which is the same kit and it helps a lot with the installation.

I went w the Long setup for my 3940; no complaints, parts are good quality* and install straightforward.

*The socket head cap screws used to hold the solenoid valve body to the bracket are lame and rusted immediately.

I'm a little different... I don't recommend 3rd functions *IF* you don't have rear remotes already. I built a road to my creek and having hydraulic top link and side links were very important. So I added an extra 3 spool valve so I can save money (adding another spool was $50 or $75 extra). I was doing the work for the rear remotes, adding another was the difference between 2 spool vs. 3 spool.

Of course if you already have them OR you don't need the rear remotes and just want the grapple... forget what I wrote ;)

The main difference between 3rd function and the 3 spool, is I have to reach for a handle instead of pushing a button. For the savings, to me, it was NOT a problem and I have had it for many years and it's still not a problem.

I choose the Kubota system for my L6060, since sold.

Well integrated package aside from the Rube Goldberg mounting for the ON/Off button, rendering it susceptible to damage on ROPS models. I suspect, but am not certain, that this has subsequently been rectified.

Additionally, the mounting/routing of the supply lines behind the right front wheel render such susceptible to damage. Again, I expect that this has been rectified, but, again, am not certain.

I've always chosen the factory options for all four Kubota tractors that I've purchased, and that includes rear remotes and 3rd function. Is that the most economic route, maybe not, but with the cost of these tractors I'm not focused on the "economic" solution unless the factory one is of poor quality and/or poor execution.

I've found Kubota/LP 3rd functions and rear remotes to be excellent and they look and feel factory. That's important to me and that's why I've purchased four 3rd functions, and three sets of 3X rear remotes all from the local Kubota dealer.

With the factory 3rd function you get a nicely integrated system rather than some generic, thrown together, obviously not factory, product. The protective sleeves, the stainless steel bands, the brackets etc., all look factory.

I have the Kubota 3rd function kit. I hate the hose routing under the tractor and how vulnerable to damage the valve and hoses are. I purchased a protective plate for the valve but nothing is available for the hoses.
W.R. Long was a tractor manufacture for many years. You still see Long tractors around my area. The attachments they make are very good quality. I would have no reservations having a 3rd function kit from them.

This is exactly what I did too and really like it. I don't need to do 3 functions at the same time when operating my grapple, two functions at once is perfectly fine and then can release or clamp when I need to.
