what's the difference between these two. I would be looking to get one for bush hogging, tilling, chopping, and maintaining a 1300 acre (mostly woods) hunting club.

GL3940 has HST+ transmission, see You Tube. More comfortable seat with the ability to rotate a quarter turn left and right, adjustable steering wheel. Servo controlled cruise control. More weight. All I can think of now.

yes the 3940 is a 2008 so it shouldn't need have any of the new emissions trash.
less than 500 hours.
Comes with loader, 6' bushhog, 6' tiller, seeder, and auger. $17,500

I see it is no longer made, so I was looking for a comparison to what may have taken its place.

The L4060 would be the replacement for the L3940. You can put a mid-pto on the 40 and 60 series but you can't on an L3901

The L3940 is a deluxe tractor.

The L3901 is an economy tractor.

Really about the only equal things would be horse power. The L3940 is waaaaaay more tractor.

The 3-pt links should extend on the L3940 making it much easier to attach and detach implements.

L3940 is a GRAND L series.

L3901 is a "standard L" series.

BIG differences!

GRAND L's are MUCH nicer tractors. INcluding a much better 3 point hitch lift system, it's a lot smoother and more powerful, also has telescoping lower links to make hooking an implement a lot easier. Loader has more power. Engine is a little smoother running, but doesn't have the electronic fuel injection (which is nice). L-40 series use mechanical injection. Both electronic and mechanical have their positive and negatives. Grand L is heavier. Much more comfortable. Adjustable HST from the driver's seat. A little better headlights. Nicer more functional dash panel. Bigger tires. More ground clearance. Better hydraulic system (but not by much). The list goes on and on. The short version is: Grand L's are a lot nicer.

Thanks Everyone.

Still debating the purchase. I found a Bobcat CT450 in the same price range minus the implements. Under 300 hours.
Neither machine has a cab.

Seems like some/all Bobcat tractors are re-badged Kioti? Not sure, from memory.

I do recall seeing some issues/problems regarding availability of Kioti parts/service.....

Just something to check....

A note about the kioti, a friend at church bought one after looking at a Kubota based on price along. He felt the Kubota was just not worth the extra$$$$.

Some 5 years later he regrets it, numerous little problems with it and parts more a challenge to acquire.

Told be 2 Sundays ago I made the right choice getting a Kubota and he wished now he would have done the same.

Not my words just the owner of a Kioti.

I owned a L3901 for a short period of time it was a good tractor and I liked the stripped down model because I didn't need the extra bells and whistles for my application. For the money the L3901 is a lot of pto power the only thing I didn't like was the loader capacity that said the loader preformed exactly as advertised. You're really not comparing apples and apples when looking at a GL vs L in my opinion.

I think if you looked at the L3901 and L3940 side by side, you would notice the L3940 looks to be a bit more rugged with respect to front and rear axle size. Tires are generally larger. 3-PT lift capacity is nearly double the L3901. The 3-pt arms are telescoping and it is easy to level the implement with the adjustable link on one of the lift arms. I bet you'll find the L3901 becomes a bit light in the front end when using a 6' medium duty brush hog compared to the L3940.

The L3940 has more loader capacity.

Once you start using the tractor you'll be happy to have all the small features included with the Grand L over the economy models.

Good luck with the purchase and let us know what you end up with.
