Searched the forum for this topic, but didn't find exactly what I'm experiencing. My L3940 (~800 hrs) will turn-over fine, but it will stop running as soon as I release the key. I live in southern California, so cold weather isn't an issue. It does it even if it's warm outside and/or the tractor was just used. If I keep the key turned for 15-30 seconds, it will usually/eventually keep running, and then always continues to run perfectly thereafter.

Fuel is new, and I assume fuel is flowing fine since it runs without any issues once it does finally start. I'm thinking starter motor (although it does turn-over), but have also read about similar issues possibly related to glow plug, and also something about a fuel flow solenoid.

Not sure where to start looking. Appreciate any tips. Thanks.

You have a bad fuel cut off solenoid or relay.

Don't keep doing what your doing, or your going to damage the starter and the flywheel!

Check fuse number 9, which is key stop 5 amp. This provides the hold voltage for the fuel stop solenoid to hold it on (run) after key is released from start position. If fuse is good check fuse panel contacts for corrosion.
