I have a l3940 that died on me. I was pulling a cultivator and the tractor just lost power and died. I changed the fuel filter, checked all the Fuze and they where fine. When I turn the key there is a click like the fuel pump is working and priming. I tried turning it over with fuel lines off and it is pumping fuel. I blew air through the fuel line to see if it was restricted and it flowed better then when i took it off the filter. So whats my next step? Will the tractor try and turn over if a safety switch is bad?

One of the purposes of the safety switches is to prevent the engine from cranking and thus starting.

Another safety switch purpose is to shut the engine down under certain circumstances.

You are likely experiencing the second purpose.

How do I go about figuring what one it is? So what your saying is something went wrong and triggered the shut down?? The engine will crank and all but just not fire up.

That is not what ya said above????

So it cranks, has fuel to the injectors????

There is a big difference between, won't crank & won't start.

Do you have an Owners' manual for your tractor?

Usually it is the seat switch that causes these problems.

Have you gone through the injection pump and injector bleeding process? A few times over?

Did it gradually loose power, or quit like you turned the key off?

Gradually slowing down and dieing, would not indicate a safety switch, but a lack of something to keep the engine running, like not enough fuel or plugged air filter.

Well i was able to get back out in the woods today. Brought out the generator and battery charger. Went over everything I already tried. I cracked the first injector and turned it over on the first try. I'm sorry I misspoke when I said turned over in the earlier post, I'm no professional. I meant cranked but not start. So I guess it was vapor locked, not sure how it happened but its up and running.
