The suspension for the seat has been locked up for a while now on my L3901DT. It looks like they used lithium grease when they put it together. It looks like it had dried out a long time ago and then started to rust. I was able to use DW-40 to break the rust and then oil to get it moving. It still is a little tight, but I ran out of time yesterday and had to put it back together.

I'm not sure why they welded the pins in, but you can't take it apart to clean and oil/grease it. I know that there was a member on the forum that cut all the welds and was ago to clean his up. If I ever go that way, I think I drill some hole for grease fittings.

You might want to look into a bike chain lubricant to apply to the moving parts of the seat. They are generally a wet application that then becomes a dry lubricant. You can also use a spray lithium grease that may be able to get into the joints. But oil and grease attracts dust and dirt (as you already know).

There was lithium grease on it and had dried out, that is why it wasn't moving.
