Was doing some post hole digging with an augur and must of hit something. PTO bound up for a second then released. Now when I slowly release the clutch to engage PTO there is a very obvious clanking noise below the seat when it starts to spin. If I raise RPMs or put load on it quiets down a bit. Everything appears to be working normally despite the noise. Not sure exactly, but it sounds expensive, can't take a video right now, but it sounds somewhat similar to this:

Anyone have any ideas?

Your title say L3901 but the video is L2800?!?! Early L2800 had ratching CAMS which under heavy load can shear (somewhat) and skip from then on... I just bought replacement CAMS to be installed someday. I used a tiller and it would skip here and there, I sold the tiller but someday I'll need to replace the CAMS.

Google Ratching Cams, you'll have plenty of reading...

PS. The L3901 have the replacement Cams that lock tight together...

Video was just to demonstrate the kind of noise I was hearing. Two different tractors though.

My L3800 makes a similar noise at idle with the PTO engaged. Not quite as loud as as what’s in the video. Raise the RPM’s just above idle and it goes away. Most noticeable with a auger, I’ve always ran an auger at or just above idle. Mine has done it since new, dealer said it’s normal.
