The battery in my L3901 was weak and wouldn’t turn over. I used a jump box to jump start it and used it for several hours without issue. After turning it off it still hadn’t charged enough to restart. Next morning I replace the battery and now it cranks over fine but will not start. I checked the 40 and 50 amp fuse next to the battery and they are both good. There’s just over a 1/4 tank of fuel. Not sure what to check next.

First knee jerk is something shorted while swtiching batteries. While standing beside engine looking at kill lever on injection pump, turn ignition to run position. If lever does not move when ignition is turned on and off the relay is bad or the fuse has blown. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START TRACTOR WHILE STANDING ON GROUND. If lever moves proceed to test glow plugs. Turn switch to glow plug position and test for 12 volts at wires on glow plugs. If you don't have a meter spit on a finger and carefully touch glow plug expecting it to be hot. If glow plugs aren't hot look for bad relay or blown fuse. If lever moves in first test and plugs heat up in secound test but engine turns over and still refuses to run filter(s) probably dirty. We shouldn't dig much deeper before regrouping.

I’ll check this on Tuesday

An L3901 has a common rail fuel system meaning there is no injection pump and no shutoff solenoid.
Turn the key switch to the RUN position and see if the hour meter displays an error code.

Have you had lower ambient temperatures in the time it won’t start? Do you know what type of diesel (summer or winter) you have and does that matter in your area?

is there a water separator that might be full of water or ice depending upon the ambient temperature?

It was mid 50 degrees F Saturday - Sunday ( even over night) when this took place. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the tip. This is a 2017 but new to me. Previously only had my 1985 Ford.

New codes:
P0380
P0606
P0605
P0336

These have always been there since I bought it used and it’s always run fine.

You need to contact your dealer. U0081, U0082, & U0083 DTCs are also ECU related.
TSB-2023-035-E-R2 (Warranty coverage for 8 years from retail date).

FIX AS FAIL EXTENSION: L, M, MX-Series; Engine ECU Malfunction Preventing Machine Start

Issue:
The engine may fail to start and DTC code P0605 or P0606 may appear.
Solution: If DTC P0605 is present, replace the engine ECU with the updated engine ECU in the chart below for your unit per the Workshop Manual and complete a manual DPF regeneration per the Diagnosis Manual.

If only DTC P0606 is present, update the ECU Software to the latest software and clear the DTC codes.

Thank you for the information. I was able to do the reset that I found on this site but the P0605 persist. Guess I’ll need to find a dealer and see if they can take care of me. I’ll post an update on what they do.

My L3901 is 4 years old now and will need a battery sooner or later, and hearing this makes me fearful to carefully change the battery in it. Sounds like Kubota has some ECU issues don't they?
Not meaning to be too sarcastic here, but my L3901 has been into the Kubota dealer for engine codes several times in the last 4 years I've had it with only 155 total engine hours on it.

Just an idea, load it on a trailer before you swap the battery. Might make your day a little better if ya have a problem.

Some of the battery companies will put a jump pack or another 12v source of power on the car before changing the battery, so as to avoid resetting everything. If you're worried, that could be an option.

Quick update: dealer looked up the serial number and said my issue was covered under that TSB mentioned earlier. I dropped it off this afternoon and will have to wait for the part to come in. Might be several weeks. Almost brought home a new L4802 instead :).

You done broke da code!
I replaced the battery in my Mercedes E350, and connected an alternate 12V source before disconnecting original battery.
No 12V power connected, would guarantee to create a nice "rollback" bill for transport to MB dealer.
