I pull up on the knob to engage the front wheel drive. Does not appear to engage. Anything to look for? Or should I get local dealer involved?

On my L3901 HST tractor with 125 hrs. the 4 wheel drive handle will pull up to a point but then I may need to turn the steering wheel or roll the tractor a few inches for the handle to fully pull up, it almost feels like a detent is passed in the handle when the tractor is engaged in 4 wheel drive.

Sometimes it works flawlessly another it may take a little effort to engage or disengage.

Here is the text from the operators manual.

Use the lever to engage the front wheels with the tractor
stopped. Shift the lever to "ON" to engage the front wheel
drive.

A. Depress the clutch pedal before engaging the front
wheel drive lever.

B. If the front wheel drive lever is difficult to set to OFF,
stop the tractor, turn the steering wheel and move the
lever.

Good Luck...

Both my big M's are exactly the same. A half hearted pull on the FWA lever nets nothing. Has to be firm and in my case with the machines in motion, same with disengagement.

That's normal operation, it just takes some working them to get it to engage and disengage smoothly, sometimes a shot of lube on the levers and linkage will help too. ;)
