First timer here. Performed my 50 hr maintenance on my L3800 HST. Decided to also change the trans oil. On refilling, manual says it will take 6.2 gallons. I've gone over that amount and cannot see the full "line" in the little window. I put a little more in and still cannot see the "line". In fact, it does not appear as if any trans oil is showing up in the little window. I think I've put in so much that I've filled up the window completely. That, plus the new trans oil is so clean it is hard to detect that it is there. Thoughts? Has anyone else run into this issue? Sure wish I had a dipstick in lieu of the little window. Maybe I'm the dipstick but I would appreciate your comments. I hate to just drain it back to 6.2 gallons and assume I'm safe without seeing that it is full in the little window. Thank you for any advice.

Welcome to OTT Obie. I know what you mean about the sight glass. If it isn't white, then it is full. After you run it a little, does the color look different? If not, then it is full. You also have to have it on fairly level ground because if it is tilted to one side or the other it will make a difference in how it reads.

I recently replaced the fluid, screen, and the sight-glass in mine. I stopped just short of pouring the stated capacity in because I knew there had to be quite a bit still in the system. I couldn't tell either.

After a week of on/off use I went out one morning to discover the fluid level resting right at the upper fill line. Reckon it took that long for all the air to purge from the lines and provide an accurate measurement.

Most likely a little over-filled. When under-filled, the sight background is a bright white.
