What size tiller is everyone running? I'm thinking that 72" might be a little big, but concerned that a 60" won't cover my tracks. What has everyone else experienced? Thanks.

PS. Just got my 3800 about a month ago and am really enjoying it so far.

Should have mentioned, that I'm not planning to plow first, even if I have to make a few shallow passes. Plows are too high to buy both a plow and a tiller right now.

Also, I'm running R4's. I'm pretty sure they track wider than 54"?

I use a 60" gear-drive King Kutter and it does just fine with 26hp at the PTO. It covers all but about 2-3" of the left tire track on my Grand L with R4s.

The local guy has King Kutter and Tonutti. The Tonutti is about $100 higher in the 6' machine, about $350 higher in the 5'.

The Tonutti is orange (yeah, I know). Anyone had experience with Tonutti?

Noone has experience with a 6' roto-tiller behind the L3800?

I ran a 40" Howard Rotovator with my L185DT - with 13.5 PTO horsepower. Never had a power problem that I knew of. The nice thing about HST is you can slow right down to nothing if you need to when the going gets tough.. I'd probably go for the 6'.

I just got a new L3800HST and a 66" land pride tiller and 72" power rake. The salesman matched them to the tractor for me. It fits the hp ratings of the attachments.

Thanks for the input. I can buy a 72" King Kutter cheaper than the Land Pride locally. I'm leaning that direction.

Have you ran the Land Pride yet?

Not yet. It was all just delivered today. Being in WI with how cold its been and how much snow we have, it may be awhile. When I get home from work, i will play in the snow with the tractor and loader.

The King Kutter II gear drive tillers are very well made. I have no complaints with mine. The 60" weighs 710 pounds iirc.

I measured the rear tread tonight. With R4 tires, 60.5". The 60" may work after all.

Before you go for the 60", have a look at your terrain and weather, wherever Rock Ridge is. You cannot put a snow chain on the R4 tires without spacers that make the tractor wider. Same is true if you have hills - adding spacers to the rear wheels for stability generally brings you out to 66" +/-. And a little bit of overlap seems a good thing.

Rock Ridge is at the end of the William J. Le Petomaine Thruway

No spacers or chains in my future. I've got some pretty nasty hills, but I'm only bush-hogging the fence rows in dry weather.

Picked up a Tonutti RTS 185 72" tiller today. I like it. Now I need a bigger garden.
