Hey guys..I own a '13 L3800..Awesome tractor.. 64 hrs on it...Had the 50 hr service done.. So I got a question..Couple weekends ago i was running the tractor..My tractor went into this funk mode....like all of a sudden its running horrible..no response with the throttle..basically almost cutting out no full power..After it gets out of the funk mode..back to full power....So after the weekend i called the dealer ( tractor is still under warranty) explained the problem..dealer said sounds like a fuel problem ... Basically said if continues they will address the problem ..( tractor is stored out of the elements)...So today after a week of not running it starts and runs normal..run it for awhile.. then goes into that funk mode a few times..It actually cut out on me a few times...Anyone else experience this problem??

No problems with my L3800. Lots of tech guys on here, one of which I'm not. But I have been running diesel vehicles and equipment for years. One of the biggest problems associated with any Diesel engine is water in fuel. And the best way to address that is to be sure it is full of fuel before the machine is parked or stored.

Just a thought - something floating around in fuel tank plugging the fuel line out of tank. Takes awhile before they get drawn to it, then starve engine.

I'm not a service tech but it's probably worthwhile to drain the tank out and get some good fresh fuel in it. Check out a recent thread about a water seperator, there were some very useful tips on how to prevent water getting into the fuel.

you got something that is restricting fuel or bad fuel......
I would empty tank and look at filters (if they are the clear kind) and see if anything is clogging up the works.
could be gasoline or a floating restriction in the tank too

First thought: Gasoline in the fuel.
Second: Water in the fuel.
Third: Contamination, algae, trash.

Mine did this several times last summer. I treated the fuel, changed the fuel filter and all has been fine since. Now all the fuel is treated year around.

Thanks guys with all the replies...I do have the gut feeling its bad fuel..I will have to say though I will rule out gasoline..I drive my tractor right to the pump when filling up..I will def look into what you all have suggested..Do all you guys treat your fuel?

Always used Power Service myself but there is a ton of different stuff out there. If it was me I would drain that tank out and change the fuel filter instead of using some additive to solve the problem. Your tractor is basically brand new, you don't want to inject anything but good fuel into that engine, not water. You may want to drain it into something that you can see the water collect in the bottom. Then find out why there was water in the fuel to begin with. Come wintertime, you definitely don't want any water in the fuel. We have a local station that was getting water in the underground tank after heavy rains. I'm sure they aren't the only one out there with issues. You may want to look into a new fuel supplier.

I use Power Service year round, but Stanadyne seems to have a very loyal following. That might be my next additive when the PS is gone.

What you treat the fuel with??
I don't know what it is, it's in the shop and raining. I just went up to the lil' old country store where I get my fuel and asked, lady said this stuff is what everyone uses. It's a clear amber gold color. No issues since.

Pull the line that goes from the tank to the filter or water trap and drain it there. ;)
