I bought this tractor with 3000 hrs a couple months ago and recently changed the engine oil. I did notice at that time the oil was high on the dip stick but just thought PO messed up on filling. After my oil change i noticed the oil starting to rise on the stick every week. So i called the dealer and they said the seal between the pump and crank case is bad and said u really should replace the whole pump. Ouch $1000 for the pump, the seal is $6. Has any one done just the seal and had luck with it lasting and for how long? Was it hard to get the old seal out? This is a spare part time tractor and will not see many hours per yr. Any info and help would b very much appreciated! Dave

I have never tried on a Kubota. I have done just the seal on a couple of old Farmall tractors my dad owns. They have lasted quite well. He however does not put lots of hours on his tractors.

For $6 I know what I would try first. :)
Agree

I changed the seal on mine. It lasted about a year than it let go again and I changed the pump.:( Some have had the seal go shortly and others have had much better luck. IMHO it's a crapshoot.

What ever you decide, good luck.:)

My forklift did the same thing. The pump is like two chambers, one low pressure and one high,if seal is leaking, most likely its wear, a redi-sleeve and a new seal should cure it. If it popped out, the high pressure side is faliling and pressurizing the case. Then a pump is the cure. Or a rebuild.

Thanks Tooljunkie. Yesterday i pulled the pump off. It only took about a half hour, the other half was dealing with the hard and stiff return hose. Seal does not have any obvious failures but still could b worn. This is held in by a internal snap ring. took the ring out now i just need to get the seal out. Dave
