L3710 3 point ripped out of housing

Long story here, but I paid someone to ship my fathers Kubota to me in Montana. It appears the shipper ran a strap over the brush hog while hauling. Too much pressure or something but it ripped the 3 point out of the housing.

Tractor has less than 1000 hours on it so am getting it fixed. Looking for advice and possibly what $ I’m looking at for repair.

I cant believe that a strap on the bh did that. Looking again at that, I wonder if the bh was raised and with that weight hanging off the back and being trailered, some road bumps probably caused the bh to bounce and break everything.
No idea on cost.

The cost for just the two housings that are broken is $4500.00.
Do you have a picture of the tractor and rotary cutter loaded on the shipper's trailer?
The three-point was forced up after it was already all the way fully raised. They about had to do it loading, unloading or they tried setting the cutter up on the front deck.

Huge problem is tractor is DOA (Dead On Axles ). Hopefully shipper's insurances pays PDQ for repair AND rental of similar tractor. If parts are $4500, labour puts it over $10K + RENTAL fees.
Kinda interesting that you could post a picture of the camera taking the picture of the camera taking a picture the damage.....

Please keep us up to date ...

Now......will they pay?
Unfortunately......likely NOT!

Wow, no idea on the cost, but it's probably pricey. I think I'd file a claim against the shipping company. Running a strap that way is pretty ridiculous.

It’s back there flopped all the way down past the ramps. I suspect it was damaged while loading?
If you look closely you can see the one side of the brush hog in the photo.

BUT the location does not look to be the likely place the tractor was put on the trailer. Almost certainly the picture was taken AFTER the damage occurred. After being on the road for a while...

Perhaps the brush hog was hanging in the air behind the tractor and for whatever reason suffered unexpected down force due to a road variation?

Maybe it was even strapped down with considerable force, which would be required by law. so any road variation would add to the down force which may have been excessive to begin with???

I’m not sure how it happened, shipper didn’t really want to share.
Its at Billings Kubota and being evaluated today. I’ll let you know what the update is.

I hope it’s not a lost cause :/

I've done FOUR of them, all the same exact failure. Looked identical except they were all FOUR on the same tractor (MX5100). I know an MX5100 is different than the OP's tractor but the principles of operation are identical.

Of those 4 times, I asked the owner what happened and of course the normal answer was "well I was just driving across the field....". The LAST time it happened, I told him either someone's gonna have to give us better idea what actually happened, or we're gonna just have to refuse it the next time (and I was kidding about that last part, and he knew it). He said the same thing, he was driving across the field and it just broke. This was backed up by the kid who was watching his dad cut grass; but the kid went on to say that once the last row was done, he turned around, threw it in highest speed it's got and about throwed the daddy off of the seat several times. Ah-HAH!

Before we (or should I say "I") condemned the operator as the cause, I consulted with the kubota central division service manager at the time. Super good dude, excellent communication skills and superb knowledge-and memory. Explained the situation and the very first question he asked was this. Was the tractor driven at high speed on rough terrain?

Yup...confirmed it. BOUNCING.

Think about it. The weight of a 6 foot shredder is significant, but it's how far back the weight is hanging on the 3ph that causes the issue. It's 6 foot back, and acts like a long lever. Get it to bouncing and something's going to give, it has to. The lower links and their mounting points are pretty stout. The upper part is too, but it's not as strong as the lower. Secondly if the 3ph feedback linkage is out of adjustment and is pouring hydraulic pressure to the cylinder such that it bottoms the piston out in the bore, it is still pushing the rockshaft, and there is significant pressure pushed toward the rear of the tractor which combined with bouncing, something's gonna give and it's almost always the 3ph cylinder housing.

once we discussed this with Mr. Customer, he was totally understanding why it was happening. He'd get the tractor home, feedback link adjusted properly but to him, it was never enough lift, so he'd adjust it some more so the shredder would lift that last inch. Well then bounce it a little (or in his case a lot), and it broke the housing. Every time. Now that he's educated, he's slowed down and left the feedback rod alone, and to my knowledge hasn't had an issue since.

Rockshaft is broken as is rear differential and housing. Looking like $7500 to fix.
Is a L3710 with 800 hours on the clock worth fixing? Seems like a nice tractor but know nothing about if it’s a good model for Kubota?

If it is an ICC-regulated shipper, it should have insurance for such issues. If it were a local guy that just hauls as a hobby or part-time job, I doubt that he will have insurance. Was there a shipping contract executed?

Looking at the condition of the front bucket, I just wonder how much abuse that tractor has seen in the past. It looks like a good candidate for the Society for the Prevention of Tractor Abuse to be looking into.

Looking at the condition of the front bucket, I just wonder how much abuse that tractor has seen in the past. It looks like a good candidate for the Society for the Prevention of Tractor Abuse to be looking into.
It was all done verbally, big mistake on my part. Also my first time using a hot shot load hauler…

Lesson learned for sure!

Yeah my old man did have a bucket abuse problem! Lol jk,the bucket wear was from us rebuilding land cruisers. The rest of her is in better shape than the bucket!

sigh, I can see BOUNCING while loading onto that deckover trailer. steep ramps and a quick stop to not hit the rest of the load.Sad thing is the cutter SHOULD have been on the deck not hanging off the tractor in mid air.
No name on the truck is a bad sign, doubt you'l get anything from him.

Maybe you can find a 'parts' tractor for less than full retail cost of the necessary parts ??
Wish I could offer more ideas.... it is a shame...

as for the bucket... dang tree probably came by and said 'hello' ?

yeah it's worth fixing.

Or the newest version, gonna be $30,000 or more. L4260? and your loader won't fit, so you gotta get new one of those too. Plus emissions equipment on the new one...ok for 5 years, after that it's your baby. And ain't none of it cheap to fix/repair either.

same reasons my former customer kept fixing that MX5100.

I hope they are.
Yea it's worth fixing, replacement would be far more.
