L3560 / L4060...So confused.

Not sure this should be a thread - more of a venting - lol

This journey to buy a smaller tractor for everyday (I own an M5-111 for larger tasks and batwing mowing) use has me at a stand still.

Smaller tractor for:
72” light/medium dury rotary mower
72” reverse tine tiller
Grapple work
Loader work - gravel/dirt

I originally was set on getting this smaller tractor with a backhoe setup and have decided against that. Will rent or buy a mini excavator. So I thought I’d get an L3901 - then I discovered the features of the Grand L’s — the 3901 then seemed a bit small so went in direction of an L3560 - seems like perfect size but I wanted a few more horse power and felt the LA555 loader would be a bit light and underpowered. But again loved the size o of the L3560.

This had me reluctantly looking at the L4060 — love the HP, the PTO power, weight - I like the slightly more capable LA805 loader — BUT it seems just slightly too large in foot print.

So I’m stuck and confused on what to order - love the physical size of the L3560 but feel the L4060 is the machine with the proper HP and etc for the jobs described above.....?? I am ok with the price of either, this is more about the right size and capabilities of the machine...

I have never hear of someone saying that they had wished they had gone smaller but a lot of people say that they wished that they had gone bigger, including me.

If you need the power and capabilities of the L4060, then you had better go that way or you won't be happy.

Yeh not many discuss going smaller- but the M5 is too large to just pull out of the garage to drag the driveway or move a small pile of gravel or dirt - Love my M5 for large mowing and the very capable FEL when I need it, but also need something a bit smaller and more maneuverable and easy on and off for everyday smaller tasks.

As I mentioned before I have the 805 loader on the 3560. I have never had any trouble lifting as much dirt as I could scrape up in my light materials bucket. I have a real heavy duty back blade, same there. The only pto driven thing I have is a flail mower and it is under kubota specs and is fine. Too bad you arent closer you could come out and see if the size suits you. It is a dandy rig, but I'm prejudiced. No matter what you get, as long as it fits in your barn, you'll have to drive it carefully in some tight places. These have a tight turning radius, but that loader out front and a blade on the back can make for some interesting maneuvering as you no doubt know from your M.

Sheepfarmer beat me to it.....i was going to say, just get the better 805 loader on the 3560. Then you still have the smaller footprint.
I haven't talked to anyone I know with a 3560 that has said it is underpowered.

Matter of fact there was even a video I linked where a mechanic had a side job running tractors on snow removal and he said the 3560 had more power than the 40 h.p. IH Farmall's he also ran.

I understand completely about the M5 vs the L for the smaller jobs.

mickeyd -- I am about 20 miles East of Pittsburgh. (you like that Forward Tine tiller? why not reverse - seems much better job, yeh I know about the rocks)

Here's what I'm thinking on a couple implements (if anyone has these or suggests changing up a model, let me know)

• Land Pride Cutter RCR1872 or RCF2072 (much difference in the two??)
• Land Pride Rotary Tiller (Reverse Tine) RTR2072 or RTR2570 (not sure)
• Land Pride Quick Hitch QH15 (I think this is right one - cat. 1 three point and I want a floating top link)
• Undecided on which grapple -- I want most for medium duty tree / branches and brush work - not sure if go with Land Pride or an EA Rake Grapple or ??

while I would say the 3560 is more nimble, which would be the deciding factor for me most times, even my 4060 bogs in some of the stuff I hog through in medium-low (mid range turtle speed) but mind you I'm in oklahoma, the grass can get insanely dense. I'm not hogging trees or anything like that, but my 72" mower tends to bind up with a clumps of grass under the deck it isn't releasing too. that being said, I would gauge your power needs to how crazy your cutting with the brush cutter, I would guess the 35 is more than enough most times. note I don't bother taking off the loader and run filled R4 tires on a hill, so the power loss might be more of a power use pushing so much up a hill at the same time, I rarely have issues going down hill with my 4060hst open. the 3560 will definitely be more nimble. but if cutting rough rough stuff is on the ticket, I'd want more power, if rougher than me, I'd want a 4760 (then you get the 1055 loader too

As you know, I have the RCR1860 and it has done well for me. I have even tried to abuse it by cutting up even bigger trees than 2" and it has held up well.

As for the tiller, yes I got the forward one for the rocks. I have built a small rock wall along my driveway for the rocks I have taken out of the garden. The tiller has done a great job also for breaking up fresh ground.

Greensburg/Latrobe area. OH YEAH you know about rocks!!!! I spent about 3 years working up on Laurel mountain summit at the A&TT microwave repeater. And I try to ride to the Highland Games and then over the mountain. A great ride in the fall !!!

Is the floating top link the only thing to be sure of...?

For that model you want a QH15.
Make sure the mower is quick hitch compatible, it will already have float built into it.
And depending on you exact needs for mowing, in some cases (rocky ground), a flail mower actually does a better job than a standard rotary mower.

They do make a really good top link adapter for rotary mowers too.
