Hello, I'm new to the forum, hope you can help. I have an old (1970's ?) L355SS which has been running great. Last summer I have replaced the alternator and adjusted the voltage regulator so that at the battery I got 13.8 charging voltage. Just recently the battery wouldn't charge. I checked the voltage and only got 12.6 v at the battery. The voltage regulator wouldn't adjust, so I replaced it. Even with the new regulator I still get only 12.6 v at the battery, which doesn't keep the battery up. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sandor

Pull the battery and have it load tested, a bad battery will pull the whole system down.

While you did change the alternator out a while ago it could be bad again, do a full test on it.

I'll PM you a link for a download of the WSM look on pages 28 and 29 for the complete test section.

Wolfman, it is the alternator. The battery is so-so but should be okay until winter. Is there an on-line source for alternators ? Can these be rebuilt?

Several places offer the 15471-64010 alternator delivered under $90 - just google or eBay it and pick one. I used to get alts & starters from Pat's small engine - but the server is off line.

If you have a local small business alternator and starter repair shop, they can often fix these often for less than a new one.
