As I mentioned in my previous thread on oil, I've taken over responsibilities for property maintenance and a super reliable L3540 from my late FIL. He was pretty regular about maintenance, but not so great on administration or writing things down haha. At 800-ish hours I'm almost certain he did the scheduled hydraulic oil change, as the current oil looks super great still. I inherited it at somewhere between 8-850 hours.

While doing a routine check (hit 900 hours so I'm going through thing more thoroughly) I noticed a pinhole leak in one of my loader hoses. I've since replaced said hose, but did suffer a loss of fluid to some degree. Still measuring on the dipstick but definitely low. All of the empty hydraulic oil pails kicking around the farm have lost their information (left out in the weather), so I have no idea what's in there.

To my question, what should I top it up with? Or do I need to do another full change to be sure I don't mix things together too much?

Thats obviously a total shot in the dark question.

The L3540 uses a universal tractor transmission fluid. Kubota recommends their own SUDT2 or UDT products. You can top off with either one or any other premium brand of UTF. What you dont want to use is a conventional hydraulic or gear oil.

You will likely get lots of very strong opinions on specific brands esoecially Kubota branded products. I will leave that argument to them.

The “safe” fluid to install for “replenishment” purposes is to utilize a fluid which is “backwards-compatible”.

SUDT2 is backwards compatible with all SUDT and UDT and “generic” hyd. fluids (so I’m told.)

More research I'm realizing that here in the great white north Kubota dealers typically only carry a "Premium UDT" option, so I'm pretty sure that's what he would have put in there. So that's what I'll get! Thanks for the replies!
