L3430HST

Recently an L3430HST has popped up on my radar, so I'm looking for opinions and advice.

First, I know nothing of HST. What would I be getting myself into in terms of operation, maintenance and repairs?

Second, emissions controls. Things have changed since the last time I had anything to do with farm equipment. At that time our only diesel tractor was an IH-706 and it was a 20 year old tractor then. I would really prefer to avoid all the electronics and sensors that are being slapped on engines in the name of saving the world. From what I can see, I think I would be safe with this tractor.

Third, just general opinions of this model. We have less than 25 acres and are in development mode now. Brush clearing and fencing are the top activities. We won't be going into any intensive agricultural activities. I hate lawn, so a finish mower is not in the picture. I will want a rough cut to keep the fence line clear. We can get a fair bit of snow here, so a snow blade mounted on the FEL might be something I look at (clearing with just the bucket is fine a couple times a year, but it gets old fast).

Finally, price. I haven't been to see the tractor yet, but it is described as "solid" (not much help, I know). Any ideas what a tractor this size/age is worth?

I’m not familiar with an L3430, but I believe Kubota HST’s are pretty reliable with maintenance and service per recommendations. Probably an HST isn’t the best for tillage work, but excels at loader work.
The xx30-series was pre-tier IV emissions, so not a worry.

There’s a couple guys here that mention the xx40-series often, in that since they are also pre emissions, just a little newer than this one, they command a pretty good $$ used.

HST is very convenient, and very reliable. You lose a little HP, but an L3430 is plenty big for what you describe - you shouldn't miss the HP. In general the theory is that HST is good for loader work, grapple work etc - anything you're going back and forth. Gear drive if you're plowing for long periods of time and need the extra 5-10% HP being put on the ground.

The L2501 would be the new tractor to look at in your size/workload. Brand new, no emissions, sturdy machine. Any larger new machine has emissions, so you're looking at an older machine to avoid that. There are mixed opinions on emissions, they work fine for most people. But if you can avoid them no reason not to.

Asking price doesn't indicate value, but gives you a ballpark.

Kubota HST's are pretty bullet proof, nothing special to take care of them over any other type of transmission.
A 30 series has nothing in the way of emissions controls.
It's a fully mechanical injection fuel system

I have a L3450 (same HP range but older) that is a really good size of tractor for yard work!

Look at a flail mower, beats the pants off a brush mower.

That tractor should be 20K give or take in good condition.
