First symptom was a squealing noise when back draging the fel bucket to level dirt. That became intermittent, but with a few minutes the trans locked up. Engine will die when clutch is let out even in neutral. Starts and runs fine with clutch pushed in. FEL and three point functional. This is the model with the forward and reverse on column and 1-4 gears on the fender. I tried a search here but found nothing. Fluid is full and clean. Thanks.

It's got something that let loose internally, get the WSM and get to splitting it and find the failed part, gould be anything from the flywheel back to about mid way through the transmission.

Found out wheels will turn if I scoot tractor with the bucket, but only when forward reverse selector on column is in neutral. With only 4 gear selector in neutral it stays stuck. That linkage has a lot of play. Couldn't it just be a linkage/shift fork issue trying to mesh two gears at once? And thank you Wolfman. I spent a summer in Atlanta, Idaho in about 1970.

There are very minor amount of external parts to check, for both the shuttle and the main gear shifter.

You could check those first.

Sad day at the farm. Drained the oil and pulled the filter. Found carnage including a piece of cage bearing. Just bought the tractor last year. Got it with too many hours for too much money. It is not worth the cost of repair. Now to find something better. I really did like the way it could work.

They are not hard to fix, parts are easy to get and most are fairly reasonable.

I have been turning wrenches (like most of you) since I was a kid. I am 72 now and not so limber. I do not have a shop to work in. The local dealer wants $120 per hr with a 30 hour estimate for tear down just to estimate repairs. Figure another 30 to put it back together and $1000 for parts, service etc, that is over $8000 to repair. with over 6000 hours on it it's not worth it. I need to replace it, even though it will cost more. My way of thinking is not always right, just always mine.

Look on Craigslist for a tractor repair man. 30 hours for an estimate is unreal. That is nothing but a ripoff.

Heck throw it on a transport and I'll do it for the parts cost! ;)

I could use a fun challenge!

And Yes I'm serious, transport both ways and parts would be way cheaper than what you're getting for costs!

If the OP will give us a location maybe some one could help out with shipping. I hate it when they try to take advantage of a seasoned citizen!

I just now saw several of the previous posts. Thanks for the offer Wolfman. And to all for your replies. And to 007, I am in Yuba County in the hills above Marysville.
